The Orioles won’t be introducing the newest addition to their pitching staff today.
Jair Jurrjens is completing his physical, and the club hopes to make his signing official early next week. It’s possible that an announcement will come Monday.
Don’t expect anything from the Orioles on Super Bowl Sunday besides tweets from Adam Jones, who arrived in New Orleans earlier today.

Don’t expect anything from the Orioles on Super Bowl Sunday besides tweets from Adam Jones, who arrived in New Orleans earlier today.
Jurrjens agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal last week that includes a possible $2.5 million in incentives. He’s got minor league options remaining and could begin the season in Triple-A Norfolk’s rotation if he doesn’t break camp with the Orioles.
The Orioles remain interested in left-hander Joe Saunders despite their agreement with Jurrjens, who was 3-4 with a 6.89 ERA in 11 games with the Atlanta Braves last year after going 13-6 with a 2.96 ERA and making the All-Star team in 2011. They’ve made an offer and continue to wait for Saunders to choose a team.
Yes, it’s true. You never can have enough pitching, and executive vice president Dan Duquette is always searching for more of it.
Bringing in Saunders would most certainly reduce Jurrjens’ chances of making the team in spring training, barring a trade, but there’s plenty of time to sort through the candidates.
The Orioles also expect to announce the signing of veteran left-hander Mark Hendrickson to a minor league contract with a spring training invite early next week.
Hendrickson threw twice for the Orioles at their mini-camp, showing off his new sidearm delivery, and manager Buck Showalter wants to take another look at him in Sarasota.
