The Orioles are busy today doing a makeover on Double-A Bowie’s roster.
They traded outfielder Jeff Fiorentino to the Braves for cash considerations. They promoted outfielder Kyle Hudson from Single-A Frederick to Bowie. And they’re placing infielder Billy Rowell on the seven-day disabled list with tendinitis in his left ankle.

They traded outfielder Jeff Fiorentino to the Braves for cash considerations. They promoted outfielder Kyle Hudson from Single-A Frederick to Bowie. And they’re placing infielder Billy Rowell on the seven-day disabled list with tendinitis in his left ankle.
Rowell is batting .231 with four RBIs, two walks, 12 strikeouts and a .510 OPS in 14 games and 39 at-bats in his first season in the Eastern League. He spent the last three summers at Frederick.
Rowell, the ninth overall pick in the 2006 draft, hasn’t played since April 30. He had a hit in each of his last two games.
Rowell arrived at Bowie without a starting job, since Brandon Waring plays third base and Joe Mahoney plays first. He got some at-bats as the designated hitter and started at first when Mahoney went on the DL with a quadriceps injury.
Update: MASNsports.com’s Steve Melewski reported earlier today that Frederick center fielder Trent Mummey left Harry Grove Stadium in an ambulance after crashing into the fence. The Keys tweeted the following:
“Update on Trent Mummey … taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons … He was alert and moving his extremities”
Also, Melewski reported that Mahoney is likely headed back to the disabled list with a sore quad.
Tough day down on the farm.
