Selby on IL, today's Game 1 lineups and notes

Colin Selby became the 27th different Orioles player to go on the injured list, tossing a scoreless inning last night and being sidelined today with a left hamstring strain. Selby will undergo an MRI this morning.

Yaramil Hiraldo was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk after the Orioles optioned him yesterday.

The Orioles are playing a day-night doubleheader as a makeup for an April 11 postponement. Charlie Morton is starting Game 1 this afternoon, and Brandon Young will start or work in bulk relief in Game 2 after being summoned as the 27th man.

Former Orioles minor league left-hander Easton Lucas is starting Game 1 for Toronto, and left-hander Eric Lauer is starting Game 2.

Morton could be making his last start with the Orioles, with the trade deadline 6 p.m. Thursday. He allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings in Cleveland after surrendering seven over 5 1/3 in Tampa.

Morton made his Orioles debut on March 28 in Toronto and allowed four runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings. He’s made 10 career starts against the Blue Jays and posted a 4.42 ERA and 1.345 WHIP in 55 innings.

The curveball is back for Morton. The whiff percentage on his best pitch has improved from 31.6 percent in June to 40.7 percent this month.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 6-for-15 with two doubles against Morton. Bo Bichette is 5-for-18 with a double and home run.

Coby Mayo had his first career three-hit game last night and he’s in the lineup for both games of the doubleheader.

Ramón Laureano is the designated hitter. His 15 home runs are his second most in a single season behind 24 with the Athletics in 2019. He’s hit four in his last eight games.

Laureano has improved his plate discipline this season, going from a 34.2 percent chase rate last season to 24.7 percent this year, per STATS.

Jordan Westburg is leading off and Jackson Holliday is on the bench. Ryan O'Hearn also is out of the lineup.

Westburg recorded three hits with two strikes last night for the first time in his career, per STATS. He has a 77.6 percent contact rate with two strikes this season.

The Orioles have won four of their last five games and are 10 below .500. They’re eight back for the last Wild Card, with seven teams still ahead of them.

Guerrero has a .360 average and .538 slugging percentage against fastballs this season.

George Springer is feeling better today after being hit on the helmet last night by a 96 mph sinker from Kade Strowd, but he isn’t in today’s lineup.

Lucas has made five appearances, including four starts, and allowed 14 runs in 21 2/3 innings. He hasn’t pitched for the Blue Jays since May 31, when he tossed 4 2/3 scoreless relief innings.

Left-handers are 2-for-18 with eight strikeouts against Lucas this season. Right-handers hit .292/.352/.569 against him.

Lucas has never faced the Orioles outside of spring training.
