I talked to Rick VandenHurk at his locker this afternoon once the clubhouse opened to the media for an hour. VandenHurk has walked five batters in five innings, including four free passes yesterday against the Twins, but he isn’t blaming a glitch in his mechanics.
“I feel good,” he said. “Yesterday, I felt a lot better than I did the first outing. I felt comfortable, which is the most important thing for me. I had four walks and two strikeouts, but it could have been the other way around. It could have been two walks and four strikeouts if you get a call here or there. Other than that, I felt good.”
VandenHurk kept missing away to right-handed hitters.
“I’m getting there. It’s been a process and I think we’re getting closer to where I want to be and where I want to go,” he said.
“It’s just a matter of ironing everything out and I’ll be fine.”
