Curtis Granderson added a three-run shot in the third and a solo homer in the seventh. It’s his fourth multi-homer game of the season and 11th in his career. He now has 38 homers and 107 RBIs.
Matusz gave up six runs over 5 1/3 to fall to 1-7 with an ERA of 9.07. In three starts since coming back from the minors, he has allowed 17 earned runs over 16 innings.
Winning pitcher Ivan Nova improves to 14-4 with an ERA of 3.96 and is now 10-0 over his last 11 starts.
Ryan Adams had an RBI double and Adam Jones drove in his 78th and 79th runs with sac flies as the Orioles six-game win streak ended. The Orioles loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth, but failed to score.
The Orioles had given up just nine total runs during the win streak. They fall to 53-78 and were trying for their first seven-game win streak since they won eight in a row from April 22 to May 1, 2005.
