FREDERICK, Md. - Cody Sedlock's hiatus is about to end, and the right-hander couldn't be happier.
Sedlock, who is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in eight starts for Single-A Frederick this season, will start Thursday at Wilmington when the Keys open the second half of their schedule. It'll be his ninth start of the season, but his first since May 25.
"I've been 100 percent for a little bit, for a while," Sedlock said this afternoon before the Carolina League All-Star Classic at Nymeo...
For years, I've spent the offseason staring at the canopy that houses Boog's BBQ at Camden Yards during the regular season and wondered how good it would be to chow down on a pit beef sandwich (medium well, with barbecue sauce and horseradish, of course) to ward off the winter chill.
But the emptiness beneath the canopy on Eutaw Street usually tells me that there will be no wintertime feast (though I've often though about the gold mine that would be created by opening Boog's BBQ one day a...
When the Orioles moved their spring training facilities to Sarasota, Fla., in 2010, officials pointed to the positive effect the franchise would bring to the economy of the Gulf Coast community. It turns out that the annual impact is much greater than anticipated.
According Sarasota County's analysis of data it has been collecting since 2015, the Orioles have generated more than $360 million in cumulative economic impact since that time. In the most recent reporting period, the club brought...
Eleven-time No. 1 singer/songwriter and Grammy-nominated country music star Cole Swindell performed in the outfield at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla., as part of the weekend-long "Athletes & Artists Play for Kids" event in support of arts education and girls' empowerment.
A portion of the proceeds from the events of March 1-3 helped fund the establishment of the new Orioles Charitable Foundation Music & Arts Education Scholarships, designed to support young students in Sarasota,...
Baseball is, at heart, a kids' game. And nowhere is that more true than at Camden Yards.
The Orioles announced today that their "Kids Cheer Free" program will be in force again this year, allowing every adult with a regularly priced ticket for a seat in the upper deck to bring one or two children age 9 or younger into the ballpark at no extra charge.
"Kids Cheer Free" tickets for the entire season can now be reserved online at orioles.com/kidsfree, and at the Oriole Park box office,...
We all know what Orioles head groundskeeper Nicole Sherry does with the field at Camden Yards is downright masterful. Now the whole nation knows - and is well-armed with some tips to make their own yards a little greener.
Sherry was a guest on "Rachael Ray" earlier today and used her appearance on the syndicated program to dispense some helpful tips on lawn care.
Think about it: a major league groundskeeper telling you how to better care for your lawn? Who doesn't need that kind of free...
Remember last July when the Oriole Advocates collected new and gently used baseball and softball equipment at Camden Yards as part of their Cardboard to Leather campaign?
Well, the bats, balls, gloves, jerseys and other gear collected has been given a second life in Puerto Rico, where kids who otherwise wouldn't get such equipment are now wearing and using it in games.
Back in November, the Advocates sent 20,000 items via shipping container to Puerto Rico, where former Orioles outfielder Benny...
April 15 is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, and the last member of the Orioles to regularly don No. 42 couldn't be prouder to see every player in the big leagues wearing the jersey number of the man who broke the color barrier in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Former O's catcher Lenny Webster is now 54 and living Orlando. He played for the Orioles from 1997 to 1999, and Baltimore was the only stop where he wore No. 42 during a 12-year major league career.
It wasn't by...

"Well, life on the farm is kinda ______-_______."
You know the words! During every seventh-inning stretch, hearing John Denver's "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" is as much a part of going to an Orioles game as the hot dog race, a Boog's BBQ sandwich or a stroll down Eutaw Street.
Since the players hear the song every home game, we decided to test their knowledge of the 1974 classic. Lefty Paul Fry was the first to embrace the challenge even though he's often in the zone warming up in the...
Youngsters who dream of a big league career are getting a little taste of what it takes, with the help of the Orioles Health & Fitness Challenge and today's visit from some O's stars to a middle school in the club's spring home of Sarasota, Fla.
Orioles Hall of Famer Brian Roberts and current Orioles Mychal Givens, Trey Mancini and Mike Wright Jr. - along with Wright's wife, Madison, a personal trainer and reigstered dietician and nutritionist - went to Booker Middle School to help...
You know Gary Thorne knows and enjoys baseball. One listen to his work on Orioles broadcasts on MASN tells you that.
But in his career - which enters its 52nd year in 2019 - Thorne has done a little bit of everything. He's covered the National Hockey League, Olympics and NCAA sports. And done plenty of voiceover work on commercials and video games.
That widespread knowledge of sport is the genesis of his newest venture: a podcast entitled "The Sports Rivals Podcast," in which Thorne and the...
It's finally here. Well, almost.
By this time next week, the Orioles will have returned to thier spring roost at the Ed Smith Stadium complex in Sarasota, Fla., and spring training will have begun. Before you know it, Grapefruit League games will be underway, which means March 28 and the start of the 2019 regular season won't be far behind.
Takes the chill off a cold winter's day, doesn't it?
But before baseball begins anew, we'll jump in the MASN way-back machine just one more time and...

Orioles head groundskeeper Nicole Sherry was recently recognized at the Sports Turf Managers Association national conference in Phoenix, Ariz.
Sherry was honored with the Dick Ericson Founders' Award, which is given annually to the STMA member who effectively manages sports fields and thier facility, exhibiting the qualities of a true team leader. Ericson was the organization's first president and continues to have an impact in raising the level of professionalism within the turf...
It take patience to be a baseball fan. No way around it, there's a lot of dead time in a game. But those who appreciate the intricate diamond ballet can wait it out and have their patience rewarded.
And what's a better reward than a walk-off victory?
This week's smattering of "Orioles Classics" on MASN is full of walk-offs, and also includes some victories of a more generic persuasion. But who are we kidding: Everyone likes a win, right?
Some of the heroes are well known, others not so...
The holiday season went by in a flash and 2019 is underway, which means we're that much closer to Orioles baseball!
With pitchers and catchers reporting to the Ed Smith Stadium Complex in Sarasota, Fla., on Feb. 13, there is only one other date Birdland is looking forward to before the start of spring training: Orioles FanFest!
The O's annual day-long baseball celebration returns to the Baltimore Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 26, and MASN will be there gearing up fans for the upcoming...
If you've already renewed your Birdland Membership, you're well on your way to enjoying the 2019 season of Orioles baseball. You'll save an average of 15 percent off individual ticket prices - with the same members-only pricing you enjoyed in 2018 - and there are six membership options, allowing fans to choose the one that's right for them.
But there are a host of perks that will be available only to Birdland Memberships members, based on the number of games they attend and the number of...
Just one more month to go. Hold on.
Waiting out the winter can be tough on a baseball fan. T.S. Eliot called April "the cruelest month," but we all know that that distinction belongs to January. It seems like forever since we enjoyed a game at Camden Yards on a sweltering night or watched the Orioles live on MASN in our shorts with a cold one at the ready.
But we're halfway through the month now, and this time next month, Sarasota will be stirring as spring training gets rolling. Meanwhile,...
