Orioles summon Jeremiah Jackson from minors, notes and lineups

The Orioles are selecting infielder Jeremiah Jackson’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk and will be short one reliever after trading left-hander Gregory Soto to the Mets.

Jackson, 25, is batting a combined .311/.340/.538 with 30 doubles, 15 home runs and 41 RBIs in 83 games between Norfolk and Double-A Chesapeake. He’s never played in the majors.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino said he won't have an update on closer Félix Bautista (shoulder) until next week.

The Orioles return to Camden Yards for a six-game homestand that begins with three against the Rockies.

Gunnar Henderson is on the bench. He’s leading the Orioles in hits, doubles and triples for the second straight season. Brooks Robinson was the last player in franchise history to do it in consecutive seasons from 1960-62, per STATS.

Coby Mayo is at first base. Jackson Holliday is the shortstop. Ramón Laureano is serving as designated hitter.

Tyler O’Neill is in right field and batting cleanup. Alex Jackson is catching.

Holliday has 97 hits and is on pace to become the fourth-youngest Oriole with 100 in a single season after Manny Machado in 2013, Robinson in 1958 and Eddie Murray in 1977.

Dean Kremer has completed seven innings in three of his last four starts and allowed one run in those games. He’s posted a 2.00 ERA in his last six starts.

Kremer has a 2.00 ERA, 0.911 WHIP and .189 opponents’ average in seven home games, and a 5.37 ERA, 1.464 WHIP and .294 opponents’ average in 13 road games. Per STATS, Jason Johnson is the only other Oriole in the last 40 years with at least 40 innings, a 2.00 ERA or lower and a 1.00 WHIP or lower through seven home games of a season.

The Orioles are nine games back for the last Wild Card.

Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland is 2-10 with a 5.19 ERA and 1.531 WHIP in 18 starts. The eighth-overall pick in the 2014 draft has five quality starts in his last seven outings.

Freeland’s numbers are impacted by allowing six runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings against the Reds, five earned runs (nine total) and 11 hits in three innings against the Tigers, four earned runs (eight total) and nine hits in 4 2/3 against the Yankees, and six runs and eight hits in four innings against the Brewers.

Right-handers are hitting .319 with an .830 OPS against Freeland this season, and left-handers are batting .267 with a .695 OPS.

Freeland has made two career starts against the Orioles and allowed 10 runs and 18 hits in 10 innings. In his only game at Camden Yards in 2023, he surrendered three runs and eight hits in six innings. Ryan Mountcastle and Austin Hays homered.

Mountcastle is on the injured list and Hays is in Cincinnati.

O’Neill, who had his first two-hit game yesterday since April 5, is 4-for-10 with a double against Freeland.

The Orioles improved yesterday to 13-17 when the opponent starts a left-hander.

The Rockies have the worst record in baseball at 26-76, which leaves them 33 1/3 games out of first place in the National League West. Their minus-247 run differential also is the worst, and no team has a higher staff ERA than Colorado’s 5.50. The Orioles’ 5.15 rotation ERA is 29th, better than only the Rockies’ 6.03.

Colorado has gone 14-38 at home and 12-38 on the road.

The Rockies have won back-to-back series for the first time since September 2024. They haven’t claimed three straight since May 2023.

Mickey Moniak has a .423 average and .769 slugging percentage this month.

Third baseman Ryan McMahon won’t play. He was traded today to the Yankees for two minor league pitchers.

The Orioles won two of three games last year at Coors Field and two of three in 2023 at Camden Yards. They had won only two of their first six series against the Rockies.

From STATS: The Orioles have scored at least three runs in nine straight games against the Rockies, their longest active streak against any opponent.
