Adam Jones grounded into a double play in the third inning, but Jonathan Schoop hit his first career grand slam in the fifth to extend the Orioles’ lead to 7-0.
Schoop also homered last night, but not as dramatically.
Todd Redmond threw Schoop a 79 mph slider, an 89 mph sinker and an 81 mph slider. That last one traveled far into the night.

Jones singled and Travis Snider and Manny Machado walked to bring Schoop to the plate. Machado won a 10-pitch battle with Redmond. He also lost one bat, which went spiraling into the seats behind the visiting dugout.

Third baseman Josh Donaldson had to be thinking, “Really?”

Schoop went 44 home games before hitting his first home run at Camden Yards last season. He’s homered in both games this year.

Seventeen of Schoop’s 19 career home runs have come against right-handers. He’s hit six against the Blue Jays, his most vs. any opponent.

The Orioles were 14-1 when Schoop homered last season. They’re 0-1 coming into tonight.

Ubaldo Jimenez is dealing tonight. He’s retired 18 of the first 20 Blue Jays with one walk and seven strikeouts. He’s thrown 87 pitches.

Jose Reyes is the only Toronto batter to reach base on a hit and a walk.

Eddie Gamboa has arrived in the bullpen. The MASN cameras showed him shaking hands with teammates.

Update: Jimenez allowed one hit, walked one and struck out eight in seven scoreless innings. He threw 96 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Jimenez completed seven innings in three starts last season, the last time on June 30 when he went eight innings vs. the Rangers.

Update II: Game over. The Orioles evened the series with a 7-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Edwin Encarnacion had a two-out RBI single off Zach Britton in the ninth. Britton needed the work. Not like it was a save situation, says Captain Obvious.

The Orioles improved to 3-2.
