Still waiting on Nats' lineup

Still waiting on Nats' lineup
ATLANTA - We're still waiting to see whether Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth will find their way into the Nationals' lineup for tonight's series finale against the Braves. The lineup has not yet been posted, likely because team trainers are evaluating one or both of the Nats' ailing outfielders. Harper left last night's game following a check swing in a sixth-inning at-bat. He was diagnosed with a bad bruise on his left side. The Nationals' leader in nearly every offensive category had...

Ramos activated, Suzuki behind the plate again (with lineups)

Ramos activated, Suzuki behind the plate again (with lineups)
ATLANTA - The Nationals have activated Wilson Ramos from the 15-day disabled list, but Ramos is not in today's lineup against the Braves. Kurt Suzuki will start again behind the plate, marking the 15th time in a 16-game span that Suzuki has gotten the nod. He's played every inning of those 15 games. Ramos was sidelined the last 15 days with a left hamstring strain. Jhonatan Solano was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse to make room for Ramos on the 25-man roster. Solano appeared in three...

LaRoche dropped to sixth in Nats' order

LaRoche dropped to sixth in Nats' order
Mired in an 0-for-22 slump, Adam LaRoche has been dropped to sixth in the Nationals' batting order. In an attempt to get his first baseman going, manager Davey Johnson has bumped LaRoche down a spot in the lineup and moved Ian Desmond up to the five-hole. This is the first time LaRoche has hit as low as sixth in the order since April 11 of last year. Typically a slow starter (he's just a .215 career hitter in March/April), LaRoche is really off to a rough 2013, batting just .143 through 21...

Rendon out of Nats lineup for second straight day

Rendon out of Nats lineup for second straight day
The Nationals are sticking with the lineup that was so effective last night, the one that put up eight runs on 12 hits. Can't really blame them for that. The one guy left on the outside looking in, however, is Anthony Rendon, the Nats' top prospect, who was called up to the majors on Sunday to make his big league debut. The Nationals' initial idea had been to have Rendon in the lineup every day. There was no point in calling Rendon up to the big leagues, they believed, if he was just...

Burnett in the clubhouse (Arrieta sent down)

Burnett in the clubhouse (Arrieta sent down)
Alex Burnett is in the Orioles clubhouse and Jake Arrieta just left Orioles manager Buck Showalter's office. Draw your own conclusions. We were waiting for a roster move, and that could be it. Nothing official yet, but it looks like there is a No. 68 jersey waiting for Burnett. Burnett is a 25-year-old right-hander who was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on April 12. Ironically, tonight's opponent is the Blue Jays. He's 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 174 career major league games with the...

Zimmerman still missing from Nats lineup, but Espinosa returns (updated)
Ryan Zimmerman's sore left hamstring remains an issue, and the third baseman is again out of the lineup for today's 3:05 p.m. game against the Mets at Citi Field. The game will air nationally on FOX. Zimmerman has not played since being removed from Wednesday's game against the Marlins in Miami, and Chad Tracy is again at third base in his place today. The Nationals, however, get second baseman Danny Espinosa back for today's game. Espinosa missed four games after being struck in the...

Harper returns to Nats lineup; Span, Espinosa still out

Harper returns to Nats lineup; Span, Espinosa still out
The Nationals get the reigning National League Rookie of the Year back in their lineup, but their leadoff hitter and starting second baseman are still sidelined. Bryce Harper returns to the Nationals lineup tonight after missing yesterday's game with flu-like symptoms. Center fielder Denard Span (flu-like symptoms) and second baseman Danny Espinosa (right wrist) will not start tonight's series finale against the Marlins, however. This will be the third straight game that Espinosa has missed...

Pitching probables for Nats-Braves weekend series (plus tonight's lineup)

Pitching probables for Nats-Braves weekend series (plus tonight's lineup)
The Nationals and Braves will square off tonight for the first of 19 times this season, with Ross Detwiler and Braves right-hander Julio Teheran taking the mound this evening at Nats Park. The 22-year-old Teheran has made just five career big league starts and has a 5.81 ERA in his brief major league career. Detwiler is coming off six strong innings in his 2013 debut. He allowed just an unearned run in a no-decision against the Reds last Saturday. Tomorrow, we'll get the Nats and Braves...

Nats, White Sox lineups for series finale

Nats, White Sox lineups for series finale
There's plenty of action on the field at Nationals Park right now. Out in left field, White Sox pitchers are stretching. Down the first base line, Kurt Suzuki is in full catching gear, throwing a football with a team trainer. First base coach Tony Tarasco is standing in the left-handed hitter's batter's box, hitting flips from a batting practice pitcher out to Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore, who are standing in center field getting work on their jumps off the bat. Just another day in a...

Adam Dunn playing left field, batting cleanup for White Sox

Adam Dunn playing left field, batting cleanup for White Sox
He didn't make an appearance in last night's 8-7 Nationals win, but Adam Dunn is in the White Sox lineup for tonight's contest. Dunn will hit cleanup for Chicago and will play left field. It'll be interesting to see what type of response Dunn gets from the Nats Park crowd in his first plate appearance tonight. This will be Dunn's first game played at Nats Park since 2010. He wore a Nats jersey from 2009-2010 and slugged 78 home runs during his tenure in D.C. Dunn spoke yesterday about...

LaRoche sits for a second straight day

LaRoche sits for a second straight day
Adam LaRoche is out of the Nationals' lineup for the second straight day. LaRoche, who has been dealing with some tightness in his back since late in the Nationals' series against the Marlins earlier this week, will not play in this afternoon's series finale against the Reds. Chad Tracy will play first base and hit in the No. 5 hole in LaRoche's stead again today. With the Nats having a day off tomorrow, manager Davey Johnson likely wants to give LaRoche three full days to rest his back...

Still no word on the corresponding roster move that will restore Tillman to the 25-man roster. While we wait for that move, here's the Orioles lineup: Nate McLouth LF Manny Machado 3B Nick Markakis RF Adam Jones CF Chris Davis 1B Matt Wieters C J.J. Tracy replaces LaRoche in Nats lineup

Tracy replaces LaRoche in Nats lineup
The good thing about the Nationals having a 1:10 p.m. first pitch today is that last night's 15-0 drubbing at the hands of the Reds is quickly pushed into the background. No need to stew on that one through the afternoon. The Nats will get back out there in just a few hours and will start fresh. There's one change to manager Davey Johnson's lineup outside of the normal catcher swap and Ross Detwiler being inserted into the pitcher's spot for the first time this season. Adam LaRoche will...

Friday's Nationals-Reds lineups
The Nationals open a three-game weekend series in Cincinnati tonight, with right-hander Dan Haren taking the hill and making his first regular season start in a Washington uniform. Marlins-Nationals lineups for series finale

Marlins-Nationals lineups for series finale
The Nationals will look for a sweep of the Marlins this afternoon at Nationals Park, with Jordan Zimmermann attempting to match the stellar efforts of Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez over the Nats' first two games. Zimmermann is 1-3 with a 4.43 ERA in eight career starts against the Marlins and is without a win against them at home. Left-hander Wade LeBlanc will take the mound for Miami. LeBlanc went 2-5 with a 3.67 ERA last season in 25 games (nine starts) with the Marlins. Over four...

Your Marlins-Nats opening day lineups

Your Marlins-Nats opening day lineups
We couldn't have asked for a much nicer day for a ballgame, at least on April 1 in Washington, D.C. It's supposed to be around 63 and sunny at first pitch here at Nationals Park, with no rain in the forecast. I'll take it. For those of you coming to the game, you might want to get here early. The opening day ceremonies will begin at 12:08 p.m., with James Brown serving as the master of ceremonies. The Nationals are scheduled to unveil their National League East division champions sign at...
