BOSTON - Orioles starter Kevin Gausman was bringing some serious heat during today's game against the Red Sox, his fastball touching 100 mph as he carried a shutout into the sixth. He didn't make it through the inning, however, and he won't be credited with a quality start. He'll gladly take a win and another turn in the rotation. The Orioles scored four runs in the top of the seventh and lead 6-1. Gausman was charged with one run in 5 1/3 innings, on David Ortiz's RBI single off...

BOSTON - The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed outfielder Nolan Reimold off waivers from the Orioles, according to sources. The Orioles designated Reimold for assignment on Tuesday after reinstating him from the 60-day disabled list and placed him on waivers Friday afternoon. Reimold is out of minor league options and must remain on the Blue Jays' 25-man roster or be designated. The Orioles selected Reimold in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Bowling Green...

The Nationals and Cubs are wrapping up their three-game holiday weekend series with a marquee matchup, with right-hander Jordan Zimmermann against right-hander Jake Arrieta. Zimmermann has allowed two earned runs or less in six consecutive starts, while Arrieta has taken a no-hitter into the seventh inning two starts in a row. The Nationals are looking to go nine games above .500 for the first time this season, keep pace with the Braves and upset Arrieta, all before the much-anticipated Beltway...

The Orioles are 7-3-2 in 12 series in the division so far this year, for a record of 23-17, a .575 winning percentage. The Orioles had gone unbeaten in eight straight AL East series, winning six and tying two, until they recently lost three of four to Tampa Bay. On the mound this afternoon, Kevin Gausman (3-2, 3.86 ERA) faces Jake Peavy (1-7, 4.82 ERA). Gausman went 3-0...

BOSTON - Nelson Cruz understands that he's going to be under close scrutiny this season after his 50-game suspension last season, and that some players in baseball weren't going to be supportive as he led designated hitters in All-Star voting. Cruz wasn't aware of John Lackey's comments last night and said he has no prior history with the Red Sox pitcher. "What I care is about my teammates, what they think about me," Cruz said. "When you go to ballparks and beat other teams they are...

Nationals
You score 13 runs and you don't change much. The Nationals lineup today, with the exception of starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, looks exactly as it did yesterday, when they pounded out a season-high 19 hits in a rout of the Cubs. There's one thing standing between the Nats and a series victory against Chicago: right-hander Jake Arrieta, who has taken a no-hitter at least into the seventh inning in each of his last two starts. On the season, Arrieta is 5-1 with a 1.18 ERA in 11 starts. With...

He won't turn 23 until October and is going through some on-the-job training at the major league level. Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop went 3-for-8 in yesterday's doubleheader. It was the kid's latest chance to learn and grow as a big leaguer. What has this rookie year been like for him? "Learning experience. Some ups and downs," Schoop said during the O's recent homestand. "But sometimes when you are down, you learn more. The team is winning and I've had some big hits. All that...
