Nothing else Matusz (updated)
That's five hitless innings for left-hander Brian Matusz, and another nice escape.
Josh Bell's throwing error allowed Jayson Werth to reach second base with no outs. Greg Dobbs grounded to first, Brian Schneider lined to second and pinch-hitter John Mayberry Jr. struck out.
Not a problem.
Matusz threw 12 pitches, nine for strikes. He's thrown 42 of his 68 pitches for strikes tonight. He also has 18 strikeouts in 14 innings this spring.
Bell booted Werth's grounder, but he kept the ball in front of him and had a chance to get the out until his throw skipped past Garrett Atkins.
Schneider's ball looked like it might fall into center field, but Wigginton ran it down.
Wigginton has shown decent range at second and third this spring, including the early workouts that I watched on the back fields.
Update: Matusz has been removed from the game after retiring leadoff hitter Jimmy Rollins on a grounder to second. He threw 70 pitches, 44 for strikes.
Matusz didn't allow a hit in 5 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out six.
The Phillies are done with Matusz, who has held them to one run and three hits in 10 1/3 innings.
