P-Nats in All-Star game; Stevenson, Solís shine for Chiefs

The North All-Stars defeated the South All-Stars 2-0 at the Carolina League All-Star Game Tuesday in Salem, Va. MVP third baseman Michael Chavis delivered a two-run double in the first inning to account for all the scoring.

Catcher Taylor Gushue went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and one man left on base. But Gushue made a huge defensive play when he caught left fielder Straw attempting to steal in he opening frame.

Left fielder Victor Robles also went 0-for-2 batting in the No. 7 hole.

Third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez did not get into the game, partly because Chavis was the MVP.

North All-Stars used nine pitchers -- one for each inning - but right-hander Ronald Pena did not pitch. The nine pitchers for the North All-Stars combined for no runs, five hits, no walks with eight strikeouts.

Regardless of game participation, it is still a big honor that the P-Nats had four members of the club invited to the All-Star game.

* Center fielder Andrew Stevenson had three hits and three stolen bases as Triple-A Syracuse beat Scranton/Wiles-Barre 5-2. Stevenson now has seven multi-hit games in his last 15 played. The three stolen bases were the most by a Chiefs player since Jeff Kobernus on September 1, 2013.

Stevenson is hitting .378 in his last 10 games with 14 hits and six RBIs. Plus his LSU Tigers beat Florida State 7-4 to advance in the College World Series. LSU(2-1) plays Oregon State (2-0) in a must-win Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern.

Left-hander Sammy Solís threw one inning as he continues his rehab, notching two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 seventh. It was the first time he has gone back-to-back in his rehab, pitching June 20 and 21.
