TORONTO - The Orioles resume their season tonight with the start of a three-game series at Rogers Centre. The Orioles (28-69) won their final two games before the All-Star break, but are still 41 games under .500 and 39 1/2 games out of first place in the American League East. They have just one winning streak of more than two games this season and that was when they won four in a row from May 9-12. But after winning those last two games over Texas, the Orioles are 4-4 their last eight games....

The Washington Nationals returned from rehab and reinstated right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg from the 10-day disabled list and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman from the 60-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Wander Suero to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Trevor Gott was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse last Sunday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements. Strasburg, 29, returns to the...

The first move following Manny Machado's departure from the Orioles will be selecting Renato Núñez's contract from Triple-A Norfolk as part of a restructuring of the left side of the infield. Núñez, 24, is batting .289/.361/.443 in 565 games with the Tides, including 14 doubles, a triple, five home runs and 25 RBIs. He's a career .265/.321/.466 hitter in 757 minor league games and belted 32 home runs in 2017 with Triple-A Nashville in the Athletics' system. The Rangers claimed...

As the major league season resumes, the question looms: Can the inconsistent Nationals overtake the Phillies and Braves to win another National League East championship? The Nationals, who have lost in the NL Division Series in four different seasons, will have all they can do to get back to the postseason. They start tonight at home against the Braves. The Nationals, who have been bounced from the postseason in the first round in four different seasons by four different teams, are season...

Monday night, Nationals fans and the world saw Bryce Harper pump up the crowd, get charged up during his home run hitting barrage and then show genuine emotion during the postgame news conference following an electric late comeback to win the 2018 Home Run Derby in Washington, D.C. Many felt that display of emotion looked like the Harper they saw from 2012 to 2017, where he showed a youthful exuberance and energy every game. That way of playing the game defined the personality of his team and...

The challenge facing the Nationals over the final 66 games of the season is significant. They not only have to make up a 5 1/2-game deficit to win their third consecutive National League East title, they have to leapfrog over two division rivals to do it. Which means there's little margin for error, beginning with this weekend's three-game series against the second-place Braves. Thing is, Davey Martinez has been a part of something like this before. Only one year ago. The Cubs came out of the...

The reality that Manny Machado no longer played for the Orioles hit them hardest yesterday as they boarded their charter flight to Toronto and gathered for a workout. It will strike them again today as they convene inside the visiting clubhouse at Rogers Centre to begin a three-game series against the Blue Jays. When the lineup card lists somebody else at shortstop. Imagine how fitting the moment if Jonathan Schoop homers and his best friend isn't in front of the dugout for the choreographed...

With one trade down and several more likely coming, the Orioles begin the post-All-Star game portion of their schedule tonight in Toronto. It's the start of a three-game series that leads into a seven-game homestand that starts Monday night. As expected Manny Machado played his last Orioles game on Sunday when the Orioles beat Texas 6-5, their second straight win. As the season resumes tonight the Orioles are looking for three-game win streak. They have won more than two in a row just one time...
