"Fire Davey Martinez. It's because they brought camels to spring training." "This is just like 2013 and 2015. They're not that good." "Blow it up! Trade everyone! The season's over!" I'm so sure. Can we all relax now? Can we take our fingers off the panic button for the time being? Paul and I certainly are for this "MASN All Access" podcast after the Nationals completed an 8-6 comeback win over the Mets at Citi Field on Monday night. Just how big was this win? We hear what Martinez...

NEW YORK - The Nationals hope Monday's comeback win against the Mets will be a springboard for a different kind of streak then the one they endured following a 4-0 start. In their first two series wins of the season, the Nats have won the first two games of the series at Cincinnati and home against the Braves. They will look to do that again tonight after last night's thrilling 8-6 comeback win. Left-hander Gio Gonzalez as an outstanding record against the Mets, especially at Citi Field. In...

The Orioles can't get away from bad weather. Only the cities change. Following Monday morning's postponement in Boston, the Orioles have agreed to allow the Tigers to move Wednesday's game at Comerica Park from 6:40 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. due to "impending inclement weather." Major League Baseball granted approval to adjust the start time with the latest forecast in Detroit calling for a 70 percent chance of rain in the evening. What's one more wintry mix? The game will air on MASN and 105.7...

DETROIT - Tonight the Orioles begin the second stop on their current road trip looking for their first win. They went 0-3 with a rainout in Boston, were badly outplayed and outscored 20-7. The Orioles spent three days not looking great on offense and defense and with most of their pitchers. Tonight the Orioles (5-11) open a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers (4-9) at Comerica Park with both teams looking to win their second series of the year. The O's offense has scored three runs or...

NEW YORK - In his first regular-season game of 2018, Jeremy Hellickson was hit around by the Mets in each of the five innings he pitched in. Hellickson hadn't pitched in a game that counted since last Sept. 23, when he was a starter for the Orioles against the Rays. Over the last month, he has been getting stretched out in warm-up games and side sessions from the Nationals' facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. He returned last night and kept his new team in the game, a game they would eventually...

NEW YORK - Nationals manager Davey Martinez had good news on top prospect Victor Robles, who suffered a hyperextended left elbow attempting to make a diving catch in shallow center field in a Triple-A game last Monday in Rochester, N.Y. There had been concern that Robles had broken his elbow or had suffered ligament damage. But Martinez announced after Monday's 8-6 win over the Mets that Robles is in better shape than most had thought. "Robles is not needing surgery at this point," Martinez...

Nats forge dramatic comeback in 8-6 win over first-place Mets

Nationals
NEW YORK - The Mets led the Nationals 6-1 after seven innings. Their lead was based on timely hits, power strikes, costly mistakes by the Nats and a vintage pitching performance from right-hander Jacob deGrom. It all seemed like a night for the Mets again until Moisés Sierra battled deGrom to a single to begin the eighth for Washington. Then the Nats produced their most dramatic comeback to date, scoring six runs on five hits in that eighth frame. The Mets had to employ five pitchers in the...

Can a pitcher who doesn't throw very hard or strike out many batters succeed in the major leagues? Orioles reliever Richard Bleier is sure making it work yet again this season. The lefty, who turned 31 yesterday, went 2-1 with a 1.99 ERA in 2017. It was a pretty strong first season as an Oriole. So far this year, he has allowed 10 hits and one run for an ERA of 0.75 over 12 innings. Bleier features a heavy dose of sinkers and sliders and pitches often at 88 and 89 mph. Last year, he averaged...
