Orioles reliever Richard Bleier will undergo surgery later today to repair a Grade 3 tear in his left lat muscle. Dr. Anthony Romeo will handle the procedure in New Jersey. Bleier will miss the remainder of the season and might not be ready for spring training. Any sort of estimate depends on what Romeo finds during the surgery. There are three grades of strains, and Bleier sustained the most severe simply by throwing a pitch last week. "Grade 1 is a minor strain, one to two weeks healing with...

The Nationals look for two wins in one day as they wrap up the pair of makeup games with the Yankees at Nats Park. Juan Soto's first career pinch-hit home run, a two-run shot, lifted the Nats past the Yankees 5-3 in the completion of the suspended game from May 15. Right-hander Erick Fedde (0-1, 5.91 ERA) takes on Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray (4-4, 4.98) in the makeup of a postponed game from May 16. This is Fedde's third start of the season and the sixth of his career. At New York five...

The visiting Yankees took the field first in their gray road uniforms, a reliever trotting from the dugout to the mound. The home Nationals, in their red alternate jerseys, sent Bryce Harper into the on-deck circle to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning of a game that began a month earlier. And then a rookie outfielder who went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Double-A Harrisburg in a game played in Bowie on May 15 came up to bat at Nationals Park and launch the titanic home run that gave the Nats a...

We're a month away from the All-Star Game coming to D.C., which means we're getting closer to the announcements of the National League and American League rosters. And the Nationals need your help to ensure the host city is well-represented in the All-Star Game! After leading all NL outfielders in voting last week, Bryce Harper has slipped to second with 1,002,696 votes behind Braves outfielder Nick Markakis' 1,173,653. Harper, a five-time All-Star, currently leads the league with 19 home...

The Nationals appear close to getting one of their injured rotation members back, though they'll still need to call upon a minor leaguer for Tuesday's start against the Orioles. Jeremy Hellickson, on the disabled list since June 3 with a strained right hamstring, went through what he referred to as "probably the last step" in his recovery today, fielding bunts and running to cover first base. The right-hander said everything felt fine after that workout, and now he's ready to start facing...

Nationals manager Davey Martinez said that he expects that right-hander Wander Suero will remain in the suspended game against the Yankees to pitch the top of the seventh. The game resumes in a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning at 5:05 p.m. on MASN. "Suero is still in the game," Martinez said. "When the game starts, we will see where we are at. Hopefully, we score a couple of runs and then things will change. But he's still in the game. "We will have guys warming up. Depending on,...

The Nationals limp home from a 1-5 road trip with questions about their offense and seeking a pair of wins against the Yankees. They lost each game in Toronto, and must get right quickly as they take on the Yankees for the second time in five days. Tonight, the Nats will finish two games with the Yankees postponed from May's rained-out affairs. The first game is a continuation of the suspended game from May 15 with the game tied 3-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning. About 30 minutes...

The unexpected demotion yesterday of catcher Chance Sisco to Triple-A Norfolk shouldn't be viewed as a sign that the Orioles have given up on him or that he's no longer regarded as one of the more promising young players in the organization. Sisco wasn't producing at the plate, which hardly made him unique on the roster. But he's been having some issues throwing that more easily can be resolved in the minors. Send him down, settle him down and try again. Sisco leaves as the team leader in...

Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said trade talk started heating up in the majors around the time of the First-Year Player Draft earlier this month. Duquette said the Orioles' front office has a "sharper focus on the future" with the team buried in last place at 20-50. Duquette was my guest Sunday on "Orioles Baseball Tonight" on flagship station 105.7 FM the Fan in Baltimore. I asked Duquette for his message to fans that say they now want to see younger...
