ATLANTA - The season record and placement in the standings allow the Orioles to remain patient with a rookie starter and keep running him out there every fifth day, enabling them to continue the evaluation process and monitor how he responds to adversity that could prove beneficial down the road. Learn about the pitcher and the person.
But is there a limit, no matter how many games already are lost?
The Orioles will place the topic on a scale and check how it balances out, weighing the pros and...
The Nats have now lost seven of their last nine games, and are now 18-20 at home and 11-13 in the National League East. So before they head out on a six-game road trip, they need to get away with a win or be saddled with their third home series sweep loss of the season.
In order for the club to get a win, they will need a solid start from an inexperienced starter in right-hander Jefry Rodriguez (0-0, 4.66 ERA), who is looking for his first win in his major league career. Rodriguez did fairly...
ATLANTA - The Orioles will decide Monday whether to activate third baseman Tim Beckham from the 60-day disabled list. They seem to be leaning in that direction.
Beckham remains with Triple-A Norfolk on his injury rehab assignment. He's 2-for-15 with the Tides after going 1-for-8 with Double-A Bowie since recovering from core muscle surgery.
The Orioles haven't been able to put Beckham in their lineup since April 23. He's appeared in 23 games with a .179/.247/.262 slash line.
"I'm not sure....
ATLANTA - Mark Trumbo is out of the Orioles' lineup today due to some soreness in his knee, but he's expected to play Monday night against the Mariners at Camden Yards.
Trey Mancini is back in the lineup, no longer bothered by neck stiffness.
Colby Rasmus is in right field and leading off. Danny Valencia is in the cleanup spot.
Rookie Austin Wynns is behind the plate.
Prior to Trumbo's grand slam yesterday, the last time that the first three Orioles in a game reached base before a home run...
The Orioles have posted 10-7 and 7-5 wins in Atlanta, and if they get one more win at SunTrust Park today, it will represent a first for this season. While the Orioles have been swept eight times this year in series at of three or four games, they have no such sweeps themselves. But they can get one this afternoon with another victory.
In the first two games of this series the Orioles have 17 runs on 22 hits and have gone 10-for-21 (.476) with runners in scoring position. That was a big change...
ATLANTA - The Orioles have finally won a road series outside of New York, but why stop there?
They can earn their first three-game series sweep in 2018 if they defeat the Braves this afternoon to conclude the road trip. No one is suggesting that an entire season is turning around and they're on the verge of becoming buyers instead of sellers. But, hey, it really is true that winning is more fun than losing.
It isn't just a rumor.
"Winning cures a lot of things," first baseman Chris Davis...
Very soon - perhaps as soon as Monday, if right-hander Brandon Kintzler gets through his minor league rehabilitation assignment this afternoon with Single-A Potomac without any issues - the Nationals will be able to set up their bullpen with the goal of shortening games to six or seven innings.
That will require the back end relievers - Kintzler, righties Ryan Madson and Kelvin Herrera, and left-handed closer Sean Doolittle - to slot into more regular roles. Kintzler and Madson will handle the...
Spend even a few minutes around Nationals manager Davey Martinez and you quickly realize how much he craves attention to detail. No action is too small to be rushed through or done poorly. Pay attention to the small stuff, and you'll prosper; ignore it, and you invite fate to intercede, usually in the worst possible way.
The little things loomed large in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Phillies, a setback that came on the heels of a 12-2 drubbing that knocked the Nationals out of second place in...
