The Orioles today announced plans for their fourth annual Kids' Opening Day presented by Weis Markets, which will be held Sunday, April 1, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards when the Orioles host the Minnesota Twins at 1:05 p.m. ET. The celebration will welcome children and their families to a new season of Orioles Baseball with many fun activities and unique gameday opportunities for several lucky kids throughout the day.
Kids' Opening Day will feature a kids-only Retro Oriole Bird Bank...
JUPITER, Fla. - Mark Trumbo was scheduled to be on this two-day trip with the Orioles to the East Coast of Florida. But he stayed back in Sarasota.
Trumbo went 0-for-3 as the designated hitter yesterday in his first game since March 6. He was out with a sore right quad muscle. After playing Wednesday, he felt more soreness and stiffness.
"He went and got an MRI this morning and we haven't gotten the results on that yet. That is why he's not here. That was a little discouraging," manager...
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Though they still won't rule out the possibility, the Nationals recognize Daniel Murphy's odds of being ready for opening day are getting slimmer by the day.
Murphy, who had microfracture surgery on his right knee in October, has been taking batting practice and fielding light grounders but has not been in any game-like situations yet. With the season opener in Cincinnati only 14 days away, time is running out for the veteran second baseman to get the preparation...
On Saturday, March 17, Orioles players and coaches will wear specially-designed green caps when the Orioles take on the Toronto Blue Jays at Ed Smith Stadium at 1:05 p.m. ET on St. Patrick's Day. Each base will also have special St. Patrick's Day jewels on them in celebration of the holiday. The three bases will be authenticated and auctioned, and the game-worn and team-issued caps will be autographed, authenticated, and auctioned online at www.orioles.com/spring to benefit Marie Selby...
The Orioles have named Scott Lewis as the club's Vice President of Strategy & Analytics. Lewis will oversee the club's centralized department of research, business intelligence, analysis, and data management, enhancing internal research functions and aiding the club's relationships with partners as well as fans.
Focusing on applying sports-specific and general business analytics principles to all areas of the company, Lewis will develop data-driven solutions to benefit club revenue...
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles clubhouse didn't have many occupants this morning with most of the team headed to Jupiter for today's game against the Cardinals.
Chris Tillman and Brad Brach played table tennis, and Richard Bleier and Joely Rodriguez had the next game. Chris Davis made a brief appearance at his locker, but not long enough for two reporters to reach him. Andrew Cashner headed out to the field to play catch with Bleier.
Zach Britton, Dylan Bundy, Donnie Hart, Mychal Givens, Mike...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Trey Mancini is leading off again for the Orioles as they make the trip to the East Coast to play the Cardinals in Jupiter.
Mancini also batted first yesterday and appears to be a legitimate candidate for the role.
Colby Rasmus is batting second, followed by Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop.
Kevin Gausman is making his third Grapefruit League start. He retired all nine Phillies he faced and struck out five in his most recent outing on March 3.
The bullpen includes Tanner Scott...
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Would you believe we're now only two weeks away from opening day? It's true: A mere 14 days from now, the Nationals will be taking the field in Cincinnati for a game that actually counts in the standings.
If you're looking for the Nats to field their full "A" lineup for the first time this spring, though, you're going to have to keep waiting. Adam Eaton, Michael A. Taylor and Ryan Zimmerman continue to get their at-bats in minor league games, and Daniel Murphy...
SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles' 2017 top draft pick, prep lefty pitcher DL Hall, is very excited about beginning his first full season of pro ball. He's ready for a lot of baseball.
"I've heard numerous stories about the long grind of the season," Hall said Wednesday morning during an interview at Twin Lakes Park. "But I could not be more excited to get in my first full pro ball season. Want to pitch in a live game with fans and really good hitters and showcase my talent again."
Hall is...
SARASOTA, Fla. - Among the most unsettled competitions in Orioles camp is the job of utility infielder, which ideally requires the player also to have outfield skills. Not a deal-breaker, but a sweet bonus.
No one within the current group of candidates has seized the opportunity. There are absolutely no indications that the Orioles will head north with Luis Sardiñas or Engleb Vielma and they reassigned Ruben Tejada yesterday to minor league camp. It's nice to have that kind of middle...
