The Washington Nationals acquired right-handed pitcher Brandon Kintzler from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Minor League left-handed pitcher Tyler Watson and international bonus pool money. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Jimmy Cordero has been designated for assignment. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement. Kintzler, 32, is in his seventh Major League season and his second with the Twins. A career 12-13 with a 3.24 ERA in 271...
MIAMI - The Nationals have pulled off a deadline deal for the Twins' Brandon Kintzler, adding another late-inning arm to their reconfigured bullpen for the season's final two months, according to a source familiar with the trade.
In exchange for Kintzler, who converted 28-of-32 save opportunities with a 2.78 ERA this year, the Nationals are sending Single-A left-handed Tyler Watson to Minnesota, according to the source.
Whether Kintzler takes over ninth-inning duties for the Nationals remains...
MIAMI - It has been pouring most of the day here in South Florida, with a tropical storm sweeping through much of the state. Fortunately, the roof at Marlins Park is closed (and hasn't sprung a leak) so the Nationals and Marlins are good to go for tonight's series opener.
Gio Gonzalez takes the mound, making yet another start in his hometown. It's the left-hander's 14th career start in Miami, and he has been excellent (7-3, 2.19 ERA).
Right-hander José Ureña starts for the Marlins....
Though it doesn't quality as huge non-waiver trade deadline news, the Orioles have acquired right-hander Yefry RamÃrez from the Yankees today in exchange for international signing bonus slots.
RamÃrez, 23, is 10-3 with a 3.41 ERA and two complete games in 18 starts with Double-A Trenton. He's walked 38 batters and struck out 91 in 92 1/3 innings.
RamÃrez has gone 30-26 with a 3.43 ERA in six minor league seasons, with 74 starts among his 98 appearances. He was an infielder in the...
MIAMI - It's officially July 31, and that means we're now talking about the non-wiaver trade deadline in terms of hours instead of days. The final countdown to 4 p.m. Eastern time has begun.
The Nationals, like all 30 clubs, will be engaged in conversations all day, seeing if there's a last-minute deal to be made. But let's be honest: They've probably already made their biggest trade of the summer.
The Ryan Madson-Sean Doolittle deal, which was finalized 15 days ago, may not have...
Sunday was a day Nationals fans should long remember.
On that sunny afternoon, they got to celebrate a baseball milestone along with two men who became stars at times when their teams and fans needed it.
In the third inning of the Nats' 10-6 loss to the Colorado Rockies, Ryan Zimmerman sent a fly ball over the right field fence and into the Nats bullpen for his 238th career homer, surpassing Frank Howard for the most ever hit by a player in a Washington uniform. Zimmerman later hit a solo shot...

Don't be fooled by what you see or hear. Don't be duped by trades that are made or those that aren't. The Orioles aren't buyers this season. They aren't really in it and they likely aren't making a push for the postseason. Friday night's deal for Jeremy Hellickson told me all I needed to know about the direction the Orioles are headed. Actually, the O's appear to be more in neutral than anything else.
Over the last few weeks, we've heard plenty of speculation about the plans for the...

The Nationals offense, especially their 3-4-5-6 hitters, has set the tone for a high scoring band of brothers that makes most National League starters uncomfortable.
However, with Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman out of the starting lineup in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Rockies on Sunday, runs were certain to be at a premium.
Rockies starter Jon Gray threw a perfect game for four innings. It was the second time in the series the Nats had gone without a hit or a baserunner for at...
