The Orioles today announced that they have acquired left-hander Jayson Aquino from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for cash considerations. Aquino has been optioned to Double-A Bowie. Aquino, 23, went 5-11 with a 3.28 ERA (50 ER/137.1 IP) over a career-high 24 starts between Class A-Advanced Lynchburg (Cleveland), Class A-Advanced Dunedin (Toronto), and Class A-Advanced Bradenton (Pittsburgh) in 2015. His 3.28 ERA ranked 16th among all Class A-Advanced pitchers and his 137.1 innings...

The Orioles made a minor league trade this morning, acquiring left-hander Jayson Aquino from the Cardinals in exchange for cash considerations. Aquino has been optioned to Double-A Bowie. Aquino, 23, pitched in three organizations last summer - none of them being the Cardinals. Aquino went 5-11 with a 3.28 ERA in a career-high 24 starts between Single-A Lynchburg (Indians), Dunedin (Blue Jays) and Bradenton (Pirates). His ERA ranked 16th among high-level Single-A pitchers, and his 137 1/3...

The Orioles are atop the American League East with an undefeated record. They're on pace to finish the 2016 season with an historic 162 wins. The Birds haven't lost a game in months. What a great time to cheer on the orange and black. That's always a fun exercise when you're team starts the season 2-0. Feel free to use that first paragraph for your Facebook status today. In all seriousness, my biggest takeaway from the early part of the 2016 season is that the Orioles offense looks...

It is good to have baseball back. Of the conclusions that can be drawn from this young season, there are none aside from the fact that A.J. Pierzynski cannot catch baseballs. There was one little mentioned and almost unnoticed event. While everyone was distracted by Bryce Harper's hat, Jayson Werth batted in the bottom half of the Nationals lineup and didn't tear up the lineup card or complain to the media after the game. Dusty Baker has passed his most important test as manager. He has shown...

Even after just a couple of days of the new season, there is just one unbeaten team in the America League East and only two in the entire AL. The Orioles and Tigers are 2-0. In the very small sample size of two games, first baseman Chris Davis said he'll take this starting pitching - just one run allowed over seven innings by Chris Tillman and Yovani Gallardo. "Absolutely," Davis said. "That is what we expect out of these guys. We work real hard on our defense in spring and take a lot of...

ATLANTA - Matt den Dekker was at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse at 2:30 p.m. today, taking batting practice in 35-degree weather, when Chiefs manager Billy Gardner called him into his office. The Nationals were placing Ben Revere on the disabled list with a strained right oblique muscle, Gardner explained, and were calling up den Dekker to take his place. The young outfielder needed to get back to his apartment ASAP, pack his bags and get to the airport so he could make a late-afternoon flight to...

Right-hander Yovani Gallardo didn't have his best command. But he does have his first Orioles victory. "It's exciting. Always a good feeling. Had to battle. Had to battle as I got into some deep counts. But we got the victory and that is the most important thing," Gallardo said after pitching the Orioles past Minnesota 4-2 at chilly Camden Yards. He went five innings, allowing two hits and one run with three walks and four strikeouts on 89 pitches. After a spring with shaky results, he now...

The left side of the Orioles clubhouse belongs to the pitchers, the row broken up into two sections to allow access to the shower area. There's light spillage to other areas, with Ubaldo Jimenez on the opposite side and Vance Worley against the back wall, but the left dominates. To find rookie Tyler Wilson, you must go all the way to the end of the row before reaching the cafeteria. He's tucked in a corner beside Chris Tillman, a spot he wouldn't dare surrender. "Tilly's awesome," said...

The Orioles have won their first two games in 2016. They just have 160 to go for that elusive undefeated season. Then come the playoffs, of course. Zach Britton recorded his 74th career save to tie Eddie Watt for seventh on the Orioles' all-time list. He ranks third among left-handers behind Tippy Martinez (105) and Randy Myers (76). Manager Buck Showalter said he's unaware of any injury to center fielder Adam Jones, who's looked uncomfortable after a couple of swings in the first two games,...
