WASHINGTON - The MRI on Adam Jones' back earlier today came back clean, according to manager Buck Showalter, who spoke to the center fielder at his locker following today's 5-4 win over the Nationals. The Orioles received confirmation that Jones has some inflammation and remains day-to-day.
Zach Britton said he hopes to play catch Friday afternoon in Boston to check the condition of his left lat muscle. He's drawing closer to a return.
Jones hasn't been in the lineup over the past four days...
Nationals right-hander Tanner Roark was able to keep his team in the game Thursday. He allowed only three runs over five innings and left with his team down 3-0.
The Nationals rallied in the bottom of the fifth with two runs and then added two more runs in seventh inning to take a short-lived 4-3 advantage. The Orioles won the game 5-4 on a Matt Wieters two-run shot off of Blake Treinen in the eighth.
"Felt good. A lot of my pitches were working today," Roark said. "I utilized the changeup a...
As the interleague series between the Orioles and Nationals came to an end with a Bryce Harper grounder Thursday night, both under-achieving teams are left with an almost impossible predicament:
Win every game and hope for help.
The lifeless Nationals, swept by the Orioles after a 5-4 loss, have missed chances to pick up ground on the first-place Mets in the National League East. The Mets aren't the same dynamic team that swept the Nationals in D.C. earlier this month.
They finished a 3-6...
For the second day in a row, the Orioles got a go-ahead homer in the late innings. It led to another important win this afternoon and a three-game sweep on the road of the Washington Nationals.
With the Orioles trailing 4-3 in the eighth, Matt Wieters crushed a two-run homer to center off Blake Treinin. The Orioles went on to win 5-4 to improve to 76-76. They have won 11 of 15 games, and climbed back to .500 for the first time since Aug. 26. The Orioles are now 4-66 when trailing after six...

The Orioles jumped on Tanner Roark early. Gerardo Parra belted a leadoff double over Michael A. Taylor's head in center. And then on a full count, Manny Machado smoked a fastball back up the middle for an RBI single.
Update: Orioles starter Tyler Wilson did not attempt any form of retaliation against Bryce Harper or any other member of the Nationals as he went through their lineup the first time.
Harper drew a walk in his first at-bat, his sixth free pass of the series.
Matt Wieters lined a...
Right-hander Tyler Wilson (2-2, 3.72 ERA) makes his fourth major league start for the Orioles this afternoon and pitches against right-hander Tanner Roark (4-6, 4.78 ERA) in the series finale against Washington at Nats Park.
On Friday at Tampa Bay, Wilson gave up six runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in his last start. He had allowed four runs in 13 2/3 innings in his first two MLB starts. Wilson made his major league debut May 20, pitching a scoreless ninth inning against Seattle.

WASHINGTON - Orioles manager Buck Showalter said there's no reason to gather his players today and warn them against retaliating for last night's incident involving Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon. He trusts them to take the high road, no matter how much it challenges their self-control.
"Retaliation? No, you're not supposed to do that. The best retaliation would be to win another game, right? That's usually how it works," Showalter said.
"Did I have to remind Darren O'Day last night...
Nationals manager Matt Williams revealed before today's game that Danny Espinosa is "likely done for the season" with a small tear in the attachment of his right hamstring.
"It's a very difficult spot and for him to try to ramp up and get to a point where he can play," Williams said. "It's a great risk and if it tears any more at that spot, then it's a long, long rehab."
The versatile infielder first experienced pain in his hamstring while racing to the plate to score the eventual...
Well, this isn't working out like the Nationals might have hoped it would.
The Nationals need to win games. They are as close to must-win as you can get. Actually, they are getting fearfully close to the point where they will need to win out and require the Mets to lose out.
In the last three games in New York, they have the ability to do that.
It's these other eight games that are the issue.
And the Mets lead is 6 1/2 games, which seems tremendously robust with 11 games remaining.
For two...
