Drew Storen on bad outings: "I have to make that adjustment"

Nationals
Nationals closer Drew Storen was rolling along at the beginning of this season. In the first four months of the season, Storen had allowed seven total earned runs in 40 appearances for a 1-0 record and a 1.64 ERA in 38 1/3 innings. Since August 1, one day after the trading deadline that brought in new closer Jonathan Papelbon, Storen has struggled mightily. In 18 games since August 1, Storen has allowed 16 runs with 14 earned. He has gone 1-2 with a 7.56 ERA in 16 2/3 innings. His WHIP (walks...

Too many times, Bryce Harper has been a one-man gang this season
Too many times, Bryce Harper has been a one-man gang this season

Nationals
The theme of Bryce Harper displaying another dominant performance but the Nationals falling short once again played out in last night's dismal 5-3 loss to the Mets. Harper jumpstarted the Nationals offense early, ripping Jacob deGrom's heater over the wall in right for a two-out solo home run. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the 97.3 mph fastball was the fastest pitch Harper has ever homered against. After the Mets tied it up in the second, Harper answered back with a leadoff double...
David Huzzard: If Matt Williams is fired, who should replace him?
David Huzzard: If Matt Williams is fired, who should replace him?

Nationals
Matt Williams is going to be fired and it isn't because he won't use his closer in the ninth inning of a tied road game or that he uses cue cards from the sports guy cliché machine in his postgame press conferences. No, it's because he has no feel for the game. There is a bit of luck involved in every decision a manager makes and when making moves in recent weeks, Matt Williams has had no luck, but he can't recognize when his pitcher is tiring or still going strong or when the opposing...

As the Double-A Bowie Baysox look to win their first Eastern League championship in the 2015 playoffs that started last night, they are chasing the title with a very young player playing a very key position. In mid-August, the Orioles moved 20-year-old Chance Sisco from Single-A Frederick to Bowie. So far, the organization's No. 4 prospect, according to Baseball America, has held his own well at the higher level. After batting .308 with four homers, 26 RBIs and an .809 OPS in 75 games for...

Nats wasted opportunities to seize division at trade deadline

Nationals
The National League East was won at the trade deadline, plain and simple. Three hours before first pitch at Citi Field on July 31, the non-waiver trade deadline expired. At that moment, the Nationals held a three-game division advantage over the Mets leading up to the start of a pivotal series. After tonight's crushing 5-3 loss, the Nationals have somehow dropped seven games behind the Mets barely five weeks later. The Mets offense was abysmal in the first four months of the season, ranking...
Zach Wilt: Royals return to Baltimore
Zach Wilt: Royals return to Baltimore

Orioles
The harsh reality is that there isn't much hope for the postseason making a return to Birdland this season. FanGraphs.com has the Orioles' playoff chances down to 0.1 percent, and an October berth would require climbing over six teams in the American League wild card standings. Being back 7 1/2 games with only 23 remaining would make that an incredibly difficult task. As the attention of fans in Baltimore shifts over to the team across the street that kicks off their season on Sunday, the...

NEW YORK - The schedule provides another break for the Orioles today, just as it will in exactly two weeks. It must be a Thursday sort of thing. So where are we in the standings? Well, the Orioles remain a game behind the Rays for third place and a game ahead of the last-place Red Sox. Before last night, the Orioles were batting .251/.305/.421 in 138 games. They batted .256/.311/.422 last season. They ranked fourth in home runs with 183 after leading the majors last season with 211. Their...
