There are a few things that I can't believe as of this morning.
I can't believe Madison Bumgarner is actually a human being, and not, in fact, a machine. Bumgarner's five-inning save in Game 7 last night left him with a ridiculous 52 2/3 innings of work this postseason, with a 1.03 ERA in that time. His career World Series ERA is now 0.25. How is that real?
I can't believe that the one postseason game that the Nationals won this year was started by Bumgarner. A guy who was that dominant for...
When it comes to the Orioles offense, we pretty much know what we are going to get. They are going to score enough runs to win enough games to make the playoffs and they are going to do it with the longball and not as an offense that features variety.
Despite some fans' constant calls for better on-base percentage and more working the count, the Orioles - as individual players for the most part and as a team for sure - just don't excel in that area and that is not likely to change much....
The World Series has finally come to an end, with Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner flushing the Royals in Game 7 while carrying an entire team on his back. Don't try it at home.
My rooting interest was having seven close games with lots of late-inning drama. Most of them were blowouts, but not last night's finale.
A World Series Game 7 has got to be the finest event in sports. As long as the Orioles aren't playing the Pirates, of course.
Too soon. And I'm still talking about...
With the World Series wrapped up, it is officially the offseason for Major League Baseball. That means no more baseball for 158 days - otherwise known as way, way too long.
To help you get your Nationals fix for the next six months, I'll be throwin' it back to a memorable moment from their 2014 season every Thursday.
Hence the "Throwback Thursday" thing.
Let's kick things off by going all the way back to the beginning. The Nats opened their season in enemy territory with a...
It's officially the offseason for all of Major League Baseball, which means we have to wait until April 6 for baseball to return. For those counting, that's 158 days - otherwise known as 3,792 hours, 227,520 minutes or 13,651,200 seconds.
OK, I think you get the point.
While you patiently wait for the first pitch, I'll be throwin' it back to the Orioles' most memorable moments from 2014 every Thursday. Let's call it Throwback Thursday, shall we?
Without further adieu, let's throw it...
The Orioles cleared another spot on their 40-man roster this afternoon by outrighting reliever Evan Meek to Triple-A Norfolk.
Meek, who signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in February following a tryout at Camden Yards during FanFest, cleared waivers before coming off the roster. He can refuse the assignment and become a free agent.
Meek, 31, went 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA in 23 1/3 innings over 23 games with the Orioles and 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA and 16 saves in 41 2/3 innings over 39 games...
The Orioles today announced that they have outrighted right-hander Evan Meek to Triple-A Norfolk.
Meek, 31, went 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA (23.1IP, 15ER) in 23 games for the Orioles and 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA (41.2IP, 9ER) and 16 saves in 39 games for the Tides this season.
The Orioles now have 38 players on their 40-man major league roster.
Tonight, we will get to witness one of my favorite things in all of sports - a Game 7.
I love Game 7s regardless of when they occur or what sport they come in. A Game 7 in the NHL playoffs is thrilling to me. A Game 7 in baseball's League Championship Series, with a spot in the Fall Classic awaiting the winner, is pretty special.
And then there's a Game 7 in the World Series, which we will be treated to between the Giants and Royals tonight.
There have only been 36 decisive Game 7s in the...
It seems that after the playoffs, some Orioles fans are concerned about Zach Britton - and those concerns have something to do with Jim Johnson.
The thinking goes that when Johnson struggled at times during the 2012 playoffs, those carried over to his 2013 season when he saved 50 games, but suffered nine costly blown saves that led to his departure from the team.
Britton had some struggles during the 2014 playoffs. He gave up a run during a save against Detroit and threw just five strikes in 20...
If the Orioles want to hold onto pending free agent Delmon Young, they need to hope that another team doesn't promise him regular playing time. Or they could try to find it for him.
Either way, Young isn't looking for another part-time role where his greatest contribution comes off the bench. He's not interested in repeating as one of baseball's better bargains.
"I'm sure Delmon would love to play every day and we hope we can find that opportunity for him," said Young's representative,...
