For Wei-Yin Chen, the song remained the same while facing the Seattle Mariners.
Last week, Chen tossed eight scoreless innings at Safeco Field, leading manager Buck Showalter to tweak the rotation and pair them again tonight.
It worked.
Chen went 7 1/3 innings tonight, holding the Mariners to one run and five hits. He walked one, the final batter he faced, and struck out a season-high eight.
Andrew Miller replaced Chen in his Orioles debut. He got Dustin Ackley to ground into a force and...
Adam Jones is celebrating his 29th birthday today, and I mention it for reasons other than to make you feel guilty for not sending him a card or ordering an ice cream cake.
As the Orioles pointed out in today's notes, Jones has four multi-hit games in six career games on his birthday. He's batting .375 (9-for-24) with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Jones grounded into a double play tonight to end the first inning, with Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager making a nice stop to his...
Nationals right-hander Doug Fister has been a perfect 5-0 in five starts at Nationals Park this season.
But he struggled a bit in the second inning of Friday's matchup against the Phillies. After notching the first two outs, Grady Sizemore hit a ball to deep left field. Bryce Harper was able to get a glove on the hit, but was unable to catch the ball.
Sizemore was given a double on the play. Following a walk to Carlos Ruiz, Cody Asche smacked a single to score Sizemore and the Phillies led...
The Orioles started off the Angels series by scoring 11 runs in the first two games. But they got blanked over 13 innings last night and have not scored in their last 17 innings as their series with Seattle begins tonight.
Even in winning six of 10 on their West Coast trip, the Orioles hit just .202 as a team and scored 36 runs.
A look at some O's hitters recently:
* Nelson Cruz is 0-for-17 over his last five games and 2-for-29 over his last eight. Over his last 18 games, Cruz is 7-for-65...
The Nationals activated infielder Asdrubal Cabrera prior to Friday's game against the Phillies. The team optioned right-hander Aaron Barrett to Triple-A Syracuse.
Manager Matt Williams said there were a couple of reasons they decided to send Barrett back to the minors.
"(Ross Detwiler's) pitched really well. So we want to get him some higher leverage lefty-lefty situations," Williams said.
"Aaron has been in a lot of pressure situations so far and it's not easy for a first-year pitcher...
Scott Fahs grew up envying the likes of Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer and Mike Mussina. He vividly remembers Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig's record for most consecutive games played and describes it as "one of the neatest things ever."
On Saturday, The 37-year Orioles fan will get the opportunity to walk the grounds of the park that provided him with some of his favorite sports memories.
Fahs, 44, will get to make a memory of his own as he is set to throw out the ceremonial first ball at...
The Orioles have signed veteran left-hander Joe Saunders, part of their 2012 playoff roster, to a minor league contract.
Saunders will report to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday and initially will be used out of the bullpen. He's never pitched in relief in 229 major league games.
The Royals released Saunders, 33, after he went 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Omaha. He was 0-5 with a 6.13 ERA in eight starts with the Rangers, who released him on July 4.
Saunders went 3-3 with a 3.63...
As Andrew Miller joins the Orioles bullpen tonight, he gives the team another power lefty for late in the game.
Zach Britton is ready to welcome Miller to the team and the 'pen.
"He'll be a good addition," Britton said this afternoon. "We watched him throw for Boston and everything we've heard from our hitters, he's a tough at-bat for lefties and righties.
"Anytime you have a tall lefty with the angle that he gets with the velocity and movement on the slider, it's a very...
The Orioles today announced that left-hander Andrew Miller has reported to the club and right-hander Ryan Webb has been designated off of the 25-man roster.
Miller, 29, was acquired from Boston yesterday. He has posted a 2.34 ERA (42.1IP, 11ER) with 13 walks and 69 strikeouts in 50 appearances for Boston this season. He has held left-handed hitters to a .150/.203/.217 line in 65 plate appearances, while keeping righties to a .180/.279/.258 line in 105 plate appearances.
Since becoming a...
The Orioles made room for new reliever Andrew Miller today by designating Ryan Webb off the 25-man roster.
This is the same move made with Evan Meek earlier this season. It's procedural. Webb remains in the organization and will be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
Teams don't put in claims for players DFA'd off the 25-man. It's not the same as being taken off the 40-man.
Webb, 28, is 3-2 with a 3.80 ERA in 42 2/3 innings over 42 appearances with the Orioles this season. The Orioles signed...
