Tyler Moore didn't need to wait long to rejoin the Nationals.
Just four days after being optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, the Nats brought Moore back to help fill in for injured first baseman Adam LaRoche.
Moore got in around midnight after playing one game for the Chiefs during a brief minor league stint. Is he rested to play today against the Athletics?
"I've had worse," he joked.
Syracuse was in Columbus when Moore got the call to head west. He didn't expect to be called...
Chris Tillman walked the first two batters he faced today and served up a three-run homer to Jason Castro to quickly fall behind this afternoon at Camden Yards.
Tillman issued a third walk in the inning and received a visit from pitching coach Dave Wallace. He escaped further harm with a strikeout and ground ball, but ran his pitch count to 32 in the process.
The inning brought back memories of his May 1 start against the Pirates, when he threw 49 pitches in the first.
The run damage was...
OAKLAND - Tyler Moore wastes no time getting back in the lineup after being called up this morning, as he's starting at first base for the Nationals' series finale against the Athletics.
Scott Hairston will serve as the designated hitter with Kevin Frandsen in left. The Nats pitch Gio Gonzalez against the A's Scott Kazmir in a matchup of hot-starting left-handers.
Gonzalez is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA through seven starts while Kazmir is 4-1 with a 2.64 ERA in seven starts.
This marks the first...
The last time the Orioles swept back-to-back three-game series was April 22-May 1, 2005 at Toronto and against Tampa bay.
The Orioles are going for a sweep of the Houston Astros here today with Chris Tillman on the mound. He has made six starts this year and the Orioles are 5-1 in those games. In fact, they are 36-18 in Tillman starts since 2012.
The right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.80 ERA. He gave up three runs in six innings Tuesday against Tampa Bay. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer...
The Orioles welcome back Chris Davis today and put Matt Wieters on the disabled list.
At some point, manager Buck Showalter will have his projected lineup intact. It's just taking a while.
Third baseman Manny Machado missed the first month of the season. He returns and Davis goes on the disabled list with a strained oblique. Now, Wieters is on the shelf.
"Who's to say this isn't that team, that isn't the lineup? Don't try to tell Steve Pearce that," Showalter said.
"If you live in...
The Washington Nationals today recalled first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and placed first baseman Adam LaRoche on the 15-day Disabled List with a right quad strain, retroactive to May 10. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Moore, 27, returns to the Nationals for his second stint of the season after briefly returning to Triple-A on May 8.
In 18 games at the Major League level...
The Orioles will have Chris Davis back in the lineup today for the first time since April 25. He's been activated off the disabled list and he's batting third this afternoon against Houston.
Does manager Buck Showalter expect Davis' timing to be off a bit at the plate at the start?
"No. I'm not expecting that," Showalter said today. "I wouldn't activate him if... like yesterday I was talking to (Bowie manager) Gary Kendall. I said, 'Gary, field might be wet, but if he can't play...
To make room for Chris Davis on the 25-man roster, the Orioles have placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
Wieters hasn't caught since May 4 and has been limited to serving as the Orioles' designated hitter in each of his last four games because of the injury. Wieters was expected to avoid a trip to the disabled list after being examined by renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.
But with the combination of Wieters' health...
The Orioles today announced that they have reinstated infielder Chris Davis from the 15-day disabled list and placed catcher Matt Wieters on the 15-day DL with a right elbow strain.
Davis was placed on the DL, retroactive to April 26, with a left oblique strain. He batted .250 (19-76) with two home runs and 13 RBI in 22 games for the Orioles. Davis went 1-for-4 with a run scored in a rehab game for Double-A Bowie last night.
Wieters, 27, has batted .308/.339/.500 with five home runs and 18...
OAKLAND - Get ready for a remarkable piece of information.
You prepared?
Even though we're just 35 games into the 2014 season, five of the Nationals' starting opening day position players have already landed on the disabled list.
Adam LaRoche, Ryan Zimmerman, Bryce Harper, Wilson Ramos and Denard Span.
That's five of the eight. And that doesn't even include fourth starter Doug Fister, who missed six weeks on the DL, and reserve outfielder Scott Hairston, who also missed time while on...
