The Orioles have six games remaining this year at Fenway Park in Boston. Maybe that is good news as the Orioles have done well there recently.
Dating back to September 2011, the Orioles have won five series in a row at Fenway, going 12-4 in that time. They went 3-1 there in a series in late 2011, 7-2 last season in Boston and 2-1 in April of this year at Fenway. They begin a nine-game road trip there tonight.
It is part of a larger O's run of success against Boston. The Orioles went 13-5...
The Nationals have started to dig out of the hole. The mark of the good ballplayer and the good team is competing consistently, going out and playing to win day-in and day-out. Washington has been consistently competitive in recent weeks. Even when they have been down early in games, they have punched and clawed their way back to key wins against the Royals and Phillies.
Had they not lost six of seven games against the Braves during August, the Nationals would be 12 of 16 for the month,...
Cuban outfielder Dariel Alvarez continues to move up the organizational ladder.
The Orioles have promoted Alvarez, 24, to Double-A Bowie after he batted .436/.463/.641 with two doubles, two homers and seven RBIs in 10 games with Single-A Frederick.
Alvarez went 4-for-9 in three games with the Gulf Coast League team, including two doubles, a triple and a home run.
The Orioles signed Alvarez for $800,000 in late July.
To make room for Alvarez at Bowie, the Orioles have released veteran...
The Orioles will open the 2014 season at home against the Boston Red Sox on March 31 after starting out in St. Petersburg, Fla., against the Tampa Bay Rays for three of the past four years.
The three-game series against the Red Sox will continue from April 2-3 after an off-day.
The Orioles will release their schedule later in the year, complete with dates and times. In the meantime, I'll pass along a few other details that I've heard along the way.
The Orioles' first road series next...
Orioles 2013 first-round draft pick, pitcher Hunter Harvey, will make his second start for short-season, Single-A Aberdeen tonight at Lowell.
It is an important game for the IronBirds' playoff chances. Aberdeen is 33-29 and leading its division, but by just a 1/2 game over Brooklyn with 10 games to play in search of its first-ever playoff berth.
Last Tuesday night at Ripken Stadium, Harvey made a very strong Aberdeen debut. Harvey went 4 1/3 innings, throwing 77 pitches and gave up four hits...
The Nationals took two out of three over the weekend from the Kansas City Royals to keep their dwindling playoff hopes just barely alive. Starting play Monday, the Nats sit 8 1/2 games behind Cincinnati, with just 32 games remaining, for the last invitation to the playoff party in the National League.
The loss on Sunday halted a five-game winning streak, matching the longest the Nats have had all season long. If they're to get back in this thing, they are going to have to take advantage now...
High Single-A Potomac beat Wilmington 6-2 Sunday at Pfitzner Stadium for victory No. 80 of the season.
The P-Nats are now 80-51 overall, a sterling winning percentage of .611.
They have already clinched a postseason berth after winning the first-half of the season. The P-Nats are 36-24 (.600) with the second-half of the season winding down.
Michael Taylor, Caleb Ramsey, Adrian Sanchez, Cutter Dykstra, Kevin Keyes, Adrian Nieto, Billy Burns, Jason Martinson and others have provided fairly...
What a weekend it was for Roger Bernadina.
The former Nationals outfielder, now with the Phillies, went 2-for-8 with a home run and a double in the Phillies' 18-inning marathon win on Saturday, and then had another double, two RBIs and two really impressive defensive plays yesterday.
If you didn't happen to see Bernadina's glovework from yesterday afternoon, here you go.
I wonder if they do the Shark Chomp in Philadelphia? Sorry, still too soon to ask that question?
Over the last two...
The Orioles are indulging in their next-to-last off-day of the regular season. The fifth in August, leaving them with one in September.
Who made out this schedule?
They were off Thursday and they're idle again today. Was that really necessary?
The roster figures to undergo some changes this week, beginning with Wilson Betemit's arrival in Boston.
Is Betemit ready? Probably not. He's not moving with 100 percent efficiency. But his rehab assignment ends today and the Orioles don't have...
The Orioles scored 10 runs against Oakland in a key win on Sunday. The O's offense was really clicking in that game.
They got a few things done on offense on Sunday:
* Run aggressively on the bases. Check.
* Make productive outs with good situational hitting. Check.
* Get Nick Markakis' bat going again. Check.
* Get some key hits with runners in scoring position. Check.
* Throw in a few homers for good measure. Check.
The Orioles won another series and they are 24-14-4 in series this year....
