The Orioles today announced that they have recalled left-hander Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk, who is scheduled to start tonight at Detroit, and selected the contract of infielder Travis Ishikawa from the Tides. To make room for Ishikawa on the 25 and 40-man rosters, right-hander Miguel Gonzalez was placed on the Paternity Leave List and infielder Yamaico Navarro has been designated for assignment. Britton, 25, is 3-2 with a 3.28 ERA (60.1IP, 22ER) in 11 starts for the Tides this season....

High Single-A Potomac Nationals right-hander A.J. Cole has been named the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week for the second time in the 2013 season. Cole helped the P-Nats clinch the Northern division for the first half of the season with an 8-0 shutout victory over the Frederick Keys on June 13 at Harry Grove Stadium. The 21-year-old Cole tossed seven scoreless innings and only four hits, with two walks and 10 strikeouts. The fourth-round selection from 2010 was part of the Michael...

The Orioles made their roster moves official this afternoon. Zach Britton has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and will start tonight against the Tigers at Comerica Park. Travis Ishikawa's contact has been selected from the Tides, and he's the designated hitter in manager Buck Showalter's lineup. Pitcher Miguel Gonzalez was placed on three-day paternity leave to make room for Ishikawa on the 25-man roster. Infielder Yamaico Navarro was designated for assignment to create space for...

BOWIE, Md. - The Double-A Bowie Baysox are hoping to open up a six-game homestand tonight at Prince George's Stadium against Harrisburg. Nolan Reimold is expected to begin his injury rehab assignment with the Baysox tonight. But as of 3:50 p.m., a steady rain is falling, the tarp is on the field and there will not be any on-field batting practice. If the game is played, there is a chance that the Orioles could decide to hold Reimold out to keep a player coming back from a hamstring injury...

PHILADELPHIA - It absolutely poured here in Philly a couple of hours ago, and as I was trying to get off an exit ramp near Citizens Bank Park, I had to drive my Mazda3 through a two-foot-high puddle that felt more like a river. I made it through just fine, and avoided having to roll down the window and swim to the ballpark. I guess the positive side is that my car won't need to be washed for a little while. The rain has eased up a bit from where it was at around 1:30 p.m., but it's still...

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said the club is "leaning toward" selecting the contract of first baseman Travis Ishikawa from Triple-A Norfolk. Ishikawa filed paperwork Sunday to opt out of his contract, giving the Orioles 48 hours to decide whether to bring him to the majors. They didn't have a spot on the 25-man roster until pitcher Miguel Gonzalez left the team yesterday to join his wife for the birth of their daughter in California. Gonzalez can be placed on three-day...

PHILADELPHIA - The first two pitches Henry Rodriguez threw as a member of the Cubs looked very similar to what we saw from Rodriguez when he was with the Nationals. Rodriguez, who was traded by the Nats to the Cubs last week after being designated for assignment, made his Cubs debut last night, and the

Chad Tracy could be a poster child for this season. He has been down so long, that any kind of up looks awfully good. One wonders if the high expectations for a team still lost in the desert, are weighing this whole enterprise down. Would that Tracy home run have been enough last season? Tracy took out Jonathan Papelbon, which is no mean feat. It was Papelbon's first blown save of the season. But only scoring two runs against John Lannan, that is a mean feat. It is hard to watch Lannan...

We've seen Chris Davis hit home runs with a broken bat and with one hand. He's pulled them over the right field wall and flicked them the opposite way. He's launched towering fly balls out of the yard and hit screaming line drives just over the top of outfield fences. We've seen 101 home runs come off Davis' bat in his six years in the big leagues and they have come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Baseball's league leader in the longball category has obviously been a topic of...
