So we know that times are changing in Birdland. Winning doesn't seem so weird. The Orioles no longer rank among the bottom feeders. With that comes renewed interest in the team, and with that comes more activity on game day. That means it's time to sound a clarion call for all O's fans to hear: Act like you know. When I read about the recent altercation down at Camden Yards between a couple of supposed Orioles fans and a guy in a Yankees hat, I got a sinking feeling in my gut. I'm no...

After Sunday's loss to the Braves, tragic news broke that the Nationals' OBP had sunk lower than the Marlins. The Marlins offense has often been ridiculed and laughed at for how comically bad it is and while the Marlins are well on their way to losing 100 games, more was expected from the Nationals. The Nationals' failure to score runs is the biggest reason for their record this season and not having a lot of baserunners is no way to score runs. While watching a Nationals game or listening...

A new season is under way in the Dominican Summer League. The short-season league, which plays games through Aug. 24, began June 1. For the first time since 2010, the Orioles have two teams in the DSL. Their DSL-1 team is managed by Elvis Morel and will play 70 games. Their DSL-2 team is managed by the club's director of Dominican Republic operations, Nelson Norman, and will play 72 games. Both O's teams are 2-1 so far. The O's single entry in the league went 34-36 last season after...

The Orioles will break out a different lineup tonight with Nick Markakis missing his first game this season to attend his grandmother's funeral. The Orioles will be facing a left-hander, Houston's Dallas Keuchel, who's 2-2 with a 5.10 ERA. Steve Pearce could start in the outfield, with Danny Valencia again serving as the designated hitter. Right-handers are batting .315 against Keuchel, compared to .283 for left-handers. Taylor Teagarden will catch Thursday afternoon's game after being...

All season, the Nationals have been searching for a spark, a big play, a dramatic win to turn the momentum and get things rolling downhill. Tonight, hours after they learned that three members of their opening day roster - Danny Espinosa, Henry Rodriguez and Zach Duke - had been shipped either to the disabled list or the waiver wire, the Nats rallied in the bottom of the ninth inning and picked up a big 3-2 win over the Mets, giving the Nats their first walk-off win of the season and their...

Chris Tillman pitched a very solid seven innings, Danny Valencia homered and Nate McLouth manufactured a run on the bases as the Orioles beat Houston, 4-1, tonight to start a three-game series and six-game road trip. The win was the Orioles' fifth in six games and 10th in the last 14. They also snapped Houston's six-game win streak. The Orioles are 18-12 on the road and 33-25 overall. At eight games over .500, the Orioles tie a season high. Tillman gave up a single in the first to leadoff...

The Nationals had a few scoring chances in their series opener against the Mets, but were never able to sustain a rally, managing just four hits in the first eight innings. New York led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth and suddenly, the Nationals bats came alive against Mets reliever Bobby Parnell. Ryan Zimmerman started the rally with a leadoff double. After a wild pitch, Adam LaRoche added a single that scored Zimmerman for the tying run. Ian Desmond laced a double to put men on...

The Nationals made some changes to their roster earlier today. Their offense then changed its M.O. tonight, putting up two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and turning what could've been another frustrating loss into an uplifting 3-2 walk-off win. Trailing 2-1 going into the bottom of the ninth, the Nats got three straight hits to open the inning and set up Steve Lombardozzi, who delivered a walk-off sac fly to plate Adam LaRoche with the game-winning run. Leading off the ninth, Ryan...

Orioles manager Buck Showalter hasn't been predictable in his use of Danny Valencia. There isn't the anticipated strict platoon at designated hitter. Valencia is starting again tonight against a right-hander, the Astros' Lucas Harrell, and he gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead with a home run to right field in the top of the third inning. Valencia has homered in three of his last seven games, and he's totaled seven RBIs in that span. Chris Dickerson, no longer bothered by a sore wrist, made...
