Eager to add a veteran starter to their rotation for the stretch run, the Orioles have acquired left-hander Joe Saunders from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom. The Orioles also acquired cash in the deal and will send a player to be named later to the D-backs.
The 31-year-old Saunders was 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA in 21 starts for the Diamondbacks. He is 75-62 in 182 career starts with the Angels and D-backs. He graduated from West Springfield High School...
The Orioles today announced that they have acquired LHP Joe Saunders and cash considerations from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for RHP Matt Lindstrom and a player to be named later. RHP Jake Arrieta has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to take Lindstrom's place on the 25-man roster for today's game.
Saunders, 31, is 6-10 with a 4.22 ERA (130.0IP, 61ER) in 21 starts for Arizona this season. The eight-year veteran is 75-62 with a 4.17 ERA (1116.2IP, 517ER) in 182 career starts...

High Single-A Potomac Nationals shut out Frederick 3-0 in a rain-shortened affair Saturday night to move within one game of the Keys and two games of the division with a week to play.
Tonight, in an early 6:05 start, the P-Nats can complete the sweep of the Keys. Left-hander Robbie Ray (4-11, 4.52 ERA) gets the call against left-hander Tim Berry (4-5, 4.52).
On Saturday, right-hander Matt Swynenberg scattered five hits and four walks, but managed to keep the Keys off the scoreboard.

PHILADELPHIA - Cliff Lee has one more win than Orioles first baseman Chris Davis this season.
He has two more wins than you and I.
Baseball is such a strange game.
Lee leads the majors in strikeout-to-walk ratio and his 3.78 ERA is far from awful. But his record this season is just 2-7, an incredibly bizarre mark this late in the season for a pitcher as talented as he is.
The lefty will oppose Jordan Zimmermann this afternoon in what should be a pretty nice battle for the final game of this...
So much for a starting catcher sitting out a day game following a night game.
Matt Wieters is behind the plate again today. He spent a few minutes in manager Buck Showalter's office before bench coach John Russell posted the lineup.
Omar Quintanilla is starting at second base.
For the Orioles:
Nick Markakis RF
J.J. Hardy SS
Nate McLouth LF
Adam Jones CF
Matt Wieters C
Chris Davis DH
Mark Reynolds 1B
Omar Quintanilla 2B
Manny Machado 3B
Chris Tillman RHP
PHILADELPHIA - Look out, everyone. The Nationals have lost three games in a row.
The best team in baseball is starting to fall apart.
"Three! Ugh. We're ready to quit," Ryan Zimmerman said last night, tongue firmly planted in cheek. "Everything's going to go into shambles."
In all seriousness, from the reaction of many fans on Twitter last night, you'd think the Nationals' season was crumbling to the ground.
They've dropped three straight games, yes, but still hold the best...
If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the Orioles aren't keeping track of the standings. They're not counting up the wins. They're not comparing this season to last season. They really are ... gulp ... taking it one day at a time.
"We're a better team than we were last year," reliever Kevin Gregg said last night after striking out the side in the ninth inning. "We're putting a lot of things together and playing good baseball as a team. Getting the job done.
"Everybody in the...
PHILADELPHIA - For the second time in as many nights, the Nationals fell behind the Phillies early, battled back in the middle innings, allowed a big insurance run in the eighth and dropped a game to their division rivals.
This one was a 4-2 loss which saw Gio Gonzalez allow three runs over six innings. The key tally was a sixth-inning solo home run off the bat of John Mayberry which turned a 2-2 game into a one-run Phillies lead.
"Felt like a replay of last night," manager Davey Johnson...
The Orioles won their 69th game tonight, beating Toronto 8-2 to match their 2011 win total. But the players certainly didn't seem impressed by that and J.J. Hardy said the Orioles have other goals in mind now.
"I think we are all playing for something a little more than that now. I don't think it really means much to us at all really. We definitely have a bigger picture in mind," Hardy said.
"We definitely are going into every single ballgame thinking we're going to win and that is the...
