A walk-off win and three-game sweep for the Orioles

After blowing a great opportunity to win the game in the last of the 11th, the Orioles did win it today in the 12th to complete a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Vladimir Guerrero's seeing-eye, ground single to center scored Robert Andino as the Orioles beat K.C. 6-5. Andino led off the 12th with a double and with one out and runners on first and second, Guerrero's single ended the game. The Orioles completed a 5-3 homestand. The Orioles trailed 4-0 after the top of the...

I mentioned earlier that Nolan Reimold redeemed himself for the poor throw in the top of the second inning by homering in the bottom half. He took it to the extreme by hitting a three-run shot the following inning and adding a single a walk. Now it's Craig Tatum's turn. Tatum was called for catcher's interference in the second, and he's lucky that his mitt didn't land in the home bullpen. But Tatum, in his first game after being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk, singled in the seventh and...

What do Cliff Lee and Jeff Francis have in common? Besides being left-handed pitchers, they are now the last two hurlers to yield two homers in a single game to an Orioles batter. Nolan Reimold produced his first major league multi-homer game today, going deep in the second and third innings off Francis. He hit a solo shot to left on an 0-1 pitch in the second and his three-run homer an inning later came on an 0-2 pitch. Reimold hit six homers this year for Triple-A Norfolk in 39 games over...

Jeremy Guthrie threw 42 pitches today in a rocky second inning. The Royals scored four times on five hits and a catcher's interference charged to Craig Tatum to take a 4-0 lead. Guthrie threw just 13 pitches in a sharp first inning when he fanned two batters, but was at 55 pitches through two frames. With two outs in the second, Tatum was charged with a catcher's interference as Alex Gordon reached. Melky Cabrera followed with a two-run single and both runs were unearned. Guthrie regrouped...

It took much too long for Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie to get a third out in the second inning, and the Orioles trail the Royals, 4-1, as we head to the third. The Royals sent nine batters to the plate against Guthrie. The right-hander got two strikes on Chris Getz before giving up a run-scoring single that extended the rally. Melky Cabrera capped the scoring with a two-run scoring after Craig Tatum was called for catcher's interference. Earlier in the inning, left fielder Nolan Reimold...

Nationals No. 2 prospect, Sammy Solis, has reported to the Single-A Hagerstown Suns. Solis has been in extended spring training recovering from various injuries. The 22-year-old lefty will make his first start Monday. He is not on the official roster yet. The Nationals have some time before Solis' Monday start to make that change.

Manager Buck Showalter talked about the latest roster move while meeting with reporters this morning. Catcher Craig Tatum is in the lineup. First baseman Brandon Snyder is back with Triple-A Norfolk. "We want to make sure Brandon continues to have a pretty good year down there, but it gives us an opportunity to move Jake (Fox) around a little bit. This is beneficial for everybody," Showalter said. "Craig's been hurt down there, his shoulder, something similar to what was going on last...

Justin Duchscherer will throw a 35-pitch bullpen session today or tomorrow in Sarasota. That's the only update on him. The Orioles don't know when he'll start another extended spring training game. Duchscherer is eligible to come off the disabled list in four days, but that's obviously not going to happen. Brian Matusz is driving to Norfolk today and will start for the Tides tomorrow night. He requested a Columbus Clippers roster to see whether he recognized any names (he did). Matusz...

Catcher Craig Tatum returns to the Orioles today and will start the game, catching Jeremy Guthrie and batting ninth in the series finale against Kansas City. Not only is Tatum thrilled to be back in the major leagues, but he is very relieved he is not dealing with a major shoulder injury. In early May with Triple-A Norfolk, Tatum made a throw in a game and felt big-time time pain in that right shoulder that sent him to the disabled list. "When I threw a ball I thought I was dying, my...

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche was sent to the disabled list this week with a shoulder injury, so the discussion regarding the future for the Nationals at that position is in the spotlight. That attention centers around the development of 22-year-old Chris Marrero. The 6-foot-3, 210 lb., Marrero has once again been handling the bat very well for Triple-A Syracuse, batting .275 with eight doubles, four homers and 19 RBIs in almost two months of play. The last 10 games, he has hit .350...
