Nationals starter Luis Atilano has retired the first nine batters he's faced, striking out three along the way. Orioles starter Jeremy Guthrie hasn't allowed a hit in three innings, but he's walked three batters. Two of those walks came in the second, but were sandwiched around a double play. Guthrie threw eight pitches in the first, but his count is up to 52 heading into the fourth. Guthrie has lost five straight starts, but he's gone at least six innings in 10 consecutive outings and...

The Orioles have activated Koji Uehara and to make roster room Garrett Atkins has been designated for assignment, ending his tenure with the club. Here is what interim manager Juan Samuel said about Atkins removal from the roster. "The decision was made a few minutes ago to designate Atkins for assignment with Koji coming off the DL and the possibility of Felix Pie and other guys arriving here soon. "Unfortunately things didn't work out for him here. It was getting kind of tough to get...

The Orioles are activating Koji Uehara from the disabled list this morning. The corresponding roster move was expected to involve a reliever, but interim manager Juan Samuel summoned first baseman Garrett Atkins into his office. The meeting includes president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail. Atkins had just arrived at the ballpark and was getting dressed when Samuel motioned for him. Update: Atkins was designated for assignment to make room for Uehara. The Orioles figure that Felix...

The Orioles will decide within the next two hours whether to activate Koji Uehara from the disabled list or wait until the homestand resumes on Tuesday. Uehara threw a simulated game on Thursday and needed a few days to recover. Interim manager Juan Samuel had suggested that Uehara could rejoin the 25-man roster yesterday, but it didn't happen. I'm probably reading too much into it, but I was curious about Samuel's short responses when asked about Uehara before and after yesterday's game....

The Bowie Baysox have won back-to-back games at first-place Altoona and won Saturday night there by a 5-3 score. Baysox left fielder Tyler Henson went 3 for 5 with an RBI and continues to kind of quietly have a very solid first full year at Double-A. The 22-year-old, fifth-round pick out of an Oklahoma high school from 2006, is now batting .295-7-36. Henson is fifth in the league in hits and just outside the top ten in the Eastern League in batting average. He is batting .375 in June and...

Starter Brad Bergesen didn't last beyond the fourth inning, but the Orioles' bullpen cushioned his fall. Four relievers combined for five scoreless innings, holding the Nationals to one hit and one walk, with two strikeouts. Major props to Mark Hendrickson, Jason Berken, Will Ohman and Alfredo Simon. Hendrickson gave up the only hit in his two innings. Berken issued the only walk over 1 1/3 innings and earned his first victory. "He's doing a tremendous job for us coming in late,"...

Less than 24 hours after winning when trailing the Nationals 6-0, the Orioles beat Washington Saturday afternoon after trailing 5-0 after the top of the fourth. This time, the O's scored four in the 5th to tie the game 5-5 and pushed across the sixth and go-ahead run when Drew Storen uncorked a wild pitch and Luke Scott scored from third base in the seventh. The Orioles have won three in a row to tie their season-best streak which they had done two times earlier. They have come from behind...

The Orioles have trailed 3-0, 6-0 and 5-0 the past three games. They've won two and just tied this one, 5-5, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Matt Wieters' two-out single brought in the fourth and fifth runs, but there were plenty of key at-bats before he stepped to the plate. Corey Patterson doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs, and Miguel Tejada followed with an RBI single. Both hits went to the opposite field, as Nats starter Livan Hernandez kept working the outer...

Adam Jones hit his daily homer today in the last of the fourth. Okay, he hasn't hit one every day, it just seems that way lately. He hit a 1-2 pitch out to left center to give the O's their first run of the game. His blast traveled 382 feet. Jones has now hit three homers over his last four games, four in seven games and five over the last 10 contests. Jones homers, 2010 season: April & May: 5 HR in 207 at bats June: 7 in 87 at bats Of his 12 homers on the year, four have been hit at...
