Orioles acquire lefty Belfiore from Arizona (updated)

The Josh Bell trade has been completed. The Orioles announced today that they acquired minor league left-hander Mike Belfiore from the Arizona Diamondbacks as the player to be named later in the Bell trade. Belfiore has been assigned to Double-A Bowie. Belfiore, 23, was a sandwich pick, the 45th overall, in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft. He allowed five earned runs in 19 innings (2.37 ERA) for Single-A Visalia this season, with one save, five walks and 28 strikeouts. Update: Now that I'm off the air, I've got a little more time to check out Belfiore's stats beyond this season. Belfiore is listed at 6 foot 2, 220 pounds. He was born in Commack, N.Y. Belfiore hasn't allowed a run to a left-handed batter over six innings this season. He's given up three hits, walked none and struck out 11. In the Pioneer League in 2009, Belfiore was 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 14 appearances that included 11 starts. He walked 13 and struck out 55 in 58 innings. In 2010 in the Midwest League, he was 3-10 with a 3.99 ERA in 25 starts. He walked 42 and struck out 105 in 126 1/3 innings. Last year, Belfiore went 4-4 with a 5.92 ERA in 35 games, including eight starts, in the California League. He walked 57 and struck out 79 in 79 innings. Interesting that he worked exclusively as a starter in 2010, but mostly pitched in relief last summer.
