Luis Sardiñas joins Orioles in Detroit

The Orioles have selected infielder Luis Sardiñas' contract from Triple-A Norfolk and he's starting tonight at second base.

The 40-man roster is full.

Sardiñas was 6-for-30 with two doubles, one home run and three RBIs with the Tides. His last major league game was May 20, 2017 with the Padres.

Sardiñas is making his 26th start and 47th appearance at second base in the majors. He made five starts at second and three at shortstop with Norfolk this year.

Tim-Beckham-at-bat-white-sidebar.jpgTim Beckham moves back to third base and the Orioles go back to a four-man bench. Danny Valencia is the designated hitter.

Beckham owns a career .387 (24-for-62) average against the Tigers with six home runs in 19 games. The six homers are the most he's hit versus any opponent.

Adam Jones is a career .338 (93-for-275) hitter with 14 home runs in 69 games against the Tigers. He's hit safely in 13 of the last 14 games with 10 multi-hit games and has hit safely in 10 straight at Comerica Park and in 16 of 17.

Jones' .336 (43-for-128) career average at Comerica Park ranks 12th in the ballpark's history (minimum 120 plate appearances.)

The Orioles lost two of three games in Detroit last season, winning the opener 13-11 in 13 innings.

Andrew Cashner is 1-8 with a 4.21 ERA in 12 appearances against the American League Central.

Cashner hasn't allowed a hit with runners in scoring position in his three starts this season, with opposing batters going 0-for-12. Opponents batted .170 (24-for-141) against Cashner with runners in scoring position last year, the lowest average in the majors.
