Post-game Trembley and Meredith

Orioles manager Dave Trembley was seething after the game. He tried to hold it together and finally cut short the interview session by saying, "That's about it." No, that was it. "A lot of things happened in the game that have been repetitive, but the intent to play hard, to come back, the things that are very apparent, speak for themselves," he said. That's a good thing, because Trembley wasn't in the mood to talk. Asked about Corey Patterson's failure to tag up and go to third on Nick Markakis' long fly ball in the sixth inning, Trembley replied, "That is about as plain as the nose on my face, what you should do. That was a mistake that was made by a guy with a lot of experience. You can go ask Corey Patterson instead of asking me because that's an insult to my intelligence." As for Cla Meredith giving up the walk-off homer, Trembley said, "Tough spot to put him in. Give Josh Willingham credit. He got a pitch and he hit it." Meredith, who has appeared in four of the last five games, wasn't looking for excuses but certainly could have found one. "It's not easy, for sure," he said. "You don't want to be the guy who stands out there for an hour trying to get loose. At the same time, you want to make sure you're prepared to go in and do the job. Obviously, I'm disappointed after the effort the guys gave today. Obviously, I want to step up and be better in that situation - if anything, just for them, the way they played. I've just got to be better than that. "I had been up a few innings before that, so I had a little grease in me. I still had to get loose. I was prepared. When I took the rubber, I was as good to go as I was going to be." It wasn't good enough. He threw four pitches before the game ended. "It's obviously not the most orthodox way of going into a game, but it's my job as a reliever to make sure I'm prepared as possible to go in there and get the job done," he said. "We're a little short-handed down there right now. Guys are rolling out there maybe a little tired and stuff. That's baseball and that's how things are in the big leagues sometimes. Obviously, (Alfredo Simon's injury) is a pretty big blow. He's done a great job for us. We'll try to do the best we can."
