Orioles DFA Baumann and are starting Rodriguez this afternoon (with lineup)

The Orioles reinstated Grayson Rodriguez from the injured list today and he’s starting against the Mariners at Camden Yards.

Mike Baumann was designated for assignment to make room on the active roster. The 40-man roster is down to 38 players.

Rodriguez hasn’t started since April 29 due to right shoulder inflammation. He avoided an injury rehab assignment.

The right-hander has never faced the Mariners.

Baumann tossed a scoreless inning last night and didn’t allow a run in three straight appearances and five of six, but the bullpen is low on optionable pieces. The Orioles can attempt to trade him or hope that he passes through waivers and is outrighted.

The Orioles drafted Baumann in the third round in 2017 out of Jacksonville University and made him a shorter-stint reliever last spring. He responded by going 10-1 with a 3.76 ERA in 60 appearances and 64 2/3 innings. He posted a 3.44 ERA and 1.473 WHIP this year in 17 games and 18 1/3 innings.

With Rodriguez starting today, the Orioles could bump Corbin Burnes to Sunday’s series finale. Cole Irvin is in the bullpen again today.

Neither team has posted its lineup.

Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo has a 3.31 ERA and 1.123 WHIP in nine starts. He’s struck out 64 batters in 54 1/3 innings.

Castillo has registered six quality starts in a row, twice tossing seven scoreless innings. He’s faced the Orioles once in his career and allowed one run and two hits in six innings.

Ryan O’Hearn is 5-for-13 with a double against him.

O’Hearn is batting .213 against fastballs this season but .375 against breaking balls and .360 versus off-speed pitches.

Ryan Mountcastle is out of today's lineup. O'Hearn is playing first base.
