Random pregame notes

The Orioles are in search of their 11th win of the season after not winning their 11th game in 2010 until May 13. They're 4-4 in series-opening games this year and 18-8 since Buck Showalter took over as manager Aug. 3. Adam Jones has hit safely in nine of his last 12 games, raising his average from .189 to .231. Derrek Lee has batted .297 with four multi-hit games and a .333 on-base percentage since the start of the last homestand, raising his average to .247. Over the last three games, the Orioles' 3-4-5 hitters are a combined 14-for-35 (.400) with two doubles, two homers, four RBIs and eight runs scored. The Orioles are 1-5 against left-handers, and they get Chicago's John Danks tonight. Danks is 0-3 with a 3.27 ERA this season. He's allowed three earned runs or fewer in four of his five starts, and has gone six innings or more in every start. Danks is 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA in seven career starts against the Orioles. Brian Roberts is 7-for-19 with a double and three RBIs. Nick Markakis is 8-for-21 with a double, homer and four RBIs. Vladimir Guerrero is 4-for-21, but he's homered twice against Danks. Jones is 1-for-15. Luke Scott is 4-for-14 with a homer. Matt Wieters is 0-for-9 with two strikeouts. The Orioles' rotation posted a 3.23 ERA during the nine-game homestand, but the bullpen is 1-2 with a 7.57 ERA in 27 1/3 innings over the last nine games. Jake Arrieta might want to stay on the mound tonight. Arrieta has gone six innings in four of his five starts, allowing seven earned runs in those outings. In his only career start against the White Sox, Arrieta allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings, with three walks and two strikeouts, in an Aug. 26 game in Chicago. Wieters has thrown out 40 percent (4-for-10) of potential base stealers, ranking first in the American League.
