ARLINGTON, Texas - Orioles manager Brandon Hyde is making an adjustment to his rotation that allows extra rest for veteran right-hander Andrew Cashner.
Cashner was supposed to start Thursday night to close out the series against the Rangers, but he's pushed back to Saturday afternoon in Houston.
David Hess starts Thursday and Gabriel Ynoa takes the mound Friday night to open the series against the Astros at Minute Maid Park.
Hyde explained his reasoning for the switch during the daily media...
If Nationals manager Davey Martinez needs him out of the bullpen in tonight's opener of a four-game series at Petco Park against the Padres, right-hander Tanner Rainey will be ready.
Being willing to pitch is a reliever's calling card, a sure way to curry favor with a manager - no small thing when you're a newcomer to an organization and still trying to carve out a niche in the bullpen.
Granted, having thrown in two straight games may mean Rainey is due a day off. But with righties Wander...
In a perfect world, AnÃbal Sánchez's second strong start off the injured list wouldn't have been rendered an afterthought. In a perfect world, Juan Soto's homer-robbing grab at the left field wall would get significantly more attention. In a perfect world, the Nationals would prefer not to contemplate another bullpen meltdown - or the ramifications for asking too much of too many pitchers on yet another occasion.
But Nationals baseball in 2019 is far from perfect, even if the ending...
After their crazy 12-11 win at Texas last night, the Orioles play the Rangers again tonight in the second game of a three-game series and six-game road trip.
The O's (19-41) now have two shots to win their first series since April 22-24 versus the White Sox. A win tonight would give them their first two-game win streak since May 4-6. The Orioles have now won the series-opening game for a third straight series.
The O's tied a season-high for runs last night. They also scored 12 on April 8...
ARLINGTON, Texas - Mychal Givens got the save last night and took the blame.
Givens said he was responsible for the pitch that scooted past catcher Pedro Severino as Elvis Andrus struck out with the tying run at second base. Severino raced to the backstop and threw out Andrus at first to preserve a 12-11 victory over the Rangers in the series opener at Globe Life Park.
A close play that could have tied the game and completed the collapse.
"It was all my fault," Givens said this afternoon. "I...
ARLINGTON, Texas - Renato Núñez stays in the Orioles lineup tonight against the Rangers after manager Brandon Hyde removed him for a pinch-hitter last night in the sixth inning.
Hyde said Núñez has a sore leg and the intent was keeping him available as the designated hitter. Núñez is batting third, as he did last night.
Chris Davis is on the bench after going 0-for-5 last night upon his return from the injured list. Trey Mancini is playing first base and DJ Stewart is in right...
After selecting just two pitchers in 11 picks in the first two days of the draft, the Orioles went very heavy on college pitchers when the final day of the draft resumed at noon today.
With their 20 selections so far this afternoon in rounds 11-30 they drafted 13 college right-handed pitchers and two college lefties. They added a first baseman, third baseman, two center fielders and one player just listed as an infielder. All 20 picks so far today have come from college. So through round 30,...

The Nationals appear to have dodged the injury bug with both second baseman Brian Dozier and center fielder Victor Robles. However, only Robles is listed in the starting lineup for today's matinee against the White Sox.
Dozier was hit in the left arm by a Reynaldo López pitch in the second inning of last night's 9-5 Nats victory. He stayed in the game for two innings before being replaced at second base by Howie Kendrick and sported a sizeable bruise after the game.
But X-rays were...
A win today would not only give the Nationals their first four-game winning streak of the season, it would give them a series sweep at home for the first time this year. The Nats have won three straight series.
Right-hander AnÃbal Sánchez takes the mound for the home team, coming off his best outing of the season. Sánchez came off the injured list after a left hamstring strain on May 29 and threw six innings of one-hit ball at Atlanta, walking one and striking out seven to pick up his...
