I'm about 30 minutes away from boarding my flight to Nashville and we already have Orioles news.
A team source confirmed this morning that the Orioles reached agreement with reliever Darren O'Day on a four-year deal "pending a medical review."
The decision came down to the Orioles and Nationals, who reportedly were hesitant to offer a fourth year.
CBSSports.com is reporting that O'Day will receive $31 million. FOXSports.com first reported the agreement.
O'Day is 23-8 with a 1.92 ERA and...
We're an hour from liftoff at Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport, and the Nationals have reportedly already lost one of their primary targets before the Winter Meetings even begin.
Per a report from Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, right-hander Darren O'Day will likely remain with the Orioles. The Nationals had made the sidearming set-up man one of their chief targets in an expected bullpen makeover.
No word yet on contract terms, but O'Day had been seeking a four-year...
The next few days in Nashville figure to be fast and furious as baseball's brass converges on the famous Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center for the annual Winter Meetings. You're likely to find Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo in the middle of some aggressive wheeling and dealing, with several important decisions on the horizon following a disappointing 2015 campaign.
Chief among the Nationals' concerns this offseason was overhauling the bullpen after a dreadful second...
The day has arrived.
The Winter Meetings officially begin on Monday, but I'm boarding a flight this morning for Nashville. Get used to the dateline because you're going to see plenty of it until I return home Thursday night.
Executive vice president Dan Duquette is expected to meet with the local media crew later today - if we can locate the elevators that take us up to his suite. I'm thinking of hiring an Uber driver to transport me around the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention...
Taking a look at the Orioles' newest catcher while waiting for the Winter Meetings to start tomorrow and wondering if the Orioles will have new players by this time next week:
On the day the Orioles traded the catcher that was considered No. 3 on their depth chart, they acquired another one who moves into that role. Steve Clevenger was dealt to Seattle on Wednesday. That same day, the Orioles acquired 26-year-old Francisco Pena from Kansas City for cash considerations.
Pena very likely is now...
Does Zack Greinke's signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks mean that we've seen the biggest shocker move of the offseason? Does it mean that the Winter Meetings next week in Nashville are going to be without drama?
Hardly.
The Diamondbacks have been hinting all offseason that they were going to make a push for pitching and subsequently a push to challenge the Dodgers and Giants in the National League West.
And while the general consensus is that Greinke was choosing to sign with the Dodgers or...
Last winter, the Nationals outbid everyone, landing the majors' top free agent starting pitcher, Max Scherzer, with a blockbuster $210 million contract. A year later, Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo apparently is nearing a deal with the top reliever on the market.
Multiple reports have the Nationals as the frontrunner to sign right-hander Darren O'Day. The submariner went 6-2 with a 1.50 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 65 1/3 innings in 68 appearances for the Orioles as their chief set-up man...
The Winter Meetings officially start in two days. I officially start packing a suitcase later this afternoon.
My bitterness may not fit in the overhead compartment.
Reliever Darren O'Day remains on the free agent market this morning. I checked again late last night and nothing seemed to change on the Orioles' end of it. They're hoping that their offer is good enough while also banking on location and manager Buck Showalter's careful handling of his bullpen as deciding factors.
Buck versus...
Now that the deadline to tender contracts has come and gone, it's time to take another look at the projected Orioles payroll for 2016.
The Orioles have six players with salaries set for the 2016 season:
* $16.3 million - Adam Jones * $15.8 million - Matt Wieters * $13.0 million - Ubaldo Jimenez * $12.5 million - J.J. Hardy * $2.6 million - Vance Worley * $1.3 million - Nolan Reimold
The Orioles have these eight players that are arbitration-eligible with their projected 2016 salaries from...
One year after the Orioles lost left-hander Andrew Miller in free agency, another huge hole could be punched in their bullpen. Will they go down swinging?
Right-hander Darren O'Day remains on the market, but it shouldn't be much longer. The Nationals continue to be viewed as the favorites to sign him, and that includes some people within the Orioles organization.
The Orioles have an offer on the table for O'Day, 33, but a couple of sources believe that he's leaning toward joining the...
