The Nationals have agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore, reaching a pact ahead of tonight's 11:59 p.m. Eastern time deadline to tender contracts to unsigned players.
Moore was the first of eight arbitration-eligible Nationals to sign. CBSSports.com was first to report the agreement.
The 28-year-old Moore has seen his statistical output and playing time fall over the past few seasons, and he has been unable to replicate the .263/.327/.513 slash line with...
Though the Orioles still haven't announced their trade with the Mariners, they're taking care of other business.
Pitcher Vance Worley avoided arbitration today as the Orioles' first eligible player to receive a contract, agreeing to $2.6 million for the 2016 season. He made $2.450 million this year.
The Orioles claimed Worley, 28, off waivers from the Pirates on Oct. 20. It's too early to define his role, but he brings experience as a starter and reliever.
Worley was 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA and...
Right-hander Craig Stammen has made excellent progress in his return from a torn flexor tendon that ended his 2015 campaign in mid-April.
He credits the ability to stay with the Nationals training staff throughout the season as one reason for his on time recovery.
"The rehab went great throughout the year," Stammen said. "The team was nice enough to let me stick (in) Washington, D.C., and be with the team when they were home and see physical therapist, (Dr.) Liz Wheeler, and then train with...
The pitching dominoes are falling fast and the Winter Meetings don't officially begin until Monday.
You just knew teams would act aggressively once J.A. Happ came off the board.
But seriously ...
Jordan Zimmermann signs a five-year, $110 million contract with the Tigers and a day later is accused of settling too fast. He's a filthy-rich bargain compared to David Price, who agreed yesterday to a seven-year, $217 million deal with the Red Sox.
The annual average value of Price's contract is a...
Is Mark Trumbo the new first baseman for the Orioles?
That is an assumption some are making tonight. It is probably too soon to know that. But the reported acquisition of Trumbo from Seattle for catcher Steve Clevenger brings a first baseman to the Orioles in the deal. Trumbo has averaged 26.2 homers per year over the last five years. From 2011-13, he averaged 32 homers per season.
The team that can hit a lot of homers added another home run hitter. So is this a key move for the Orioles or just...
The Orioles are drawing closer to a deal that would send catcher Steve Clevenger to the Mariners for first baseman Mark Trumbo, according to a source.
The two teams also were engaged in trade talks at the non-waiver deadline in July. However, the Orioles weren't willing to part with Clevenger, according to another source.
Clevenger is out of options and became more expendable after Matt Wieters accepted the $15.8 million qualifying offer. The Orioles have considered carrying him as a third...
Well, here is a twist: a prospect ranking that likes the Orioles. At a time when their farm system has gotten ample criticism, a ranking was published this week where the Orioles look strong.
It was published on FanGraphs.com by Chris Mitchell, who calls it his KATOH system. The system uses only 2015 minor league stats and data to project future major league performance. Scouting reports and analysis are not part of this ranking. The list only considers players with at least 300 plate...
Are you missing your daily dose of F.P. Santangelo on MASN's Nationals broadcasts in the offseason? Well, you can now catch him on the radio hosting the "Nats Hot Stove Show" on 106.7 The Fan on Saturdays from 10-11 a.m. The show premieres this Saturday Dec. 5, a day before the Winter Meetings convene in Nashville.
Entering his sixth season as MASN's Nationals analyst, Santangelo announced his return to his radio roots on The Fan's "Chad Dukes vs. The World" afternoon program today. Each...
Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said he hopes to make a final decision on his arbitration-eligible players by Wednesday afternoon, well in advance of the 11:59 p.m. deadline for tendering contracts.
The process has been known to drag out, with former closer Jim Johnson traded to the Athletics minutes before the deadline in 2013. However, it may not take as long this year.
The Orioles have 11 arbitration-eligible players and Duquette confirmed today that there are a few non-tender...
I am getting more positive updates from the winter leagues on some of the Nationals' outfield prospects.
Center fielder Brian Goodwin is now ranked second in team batting for Margarita in the Venezuelan Winter League. His slash line is .356/.444/.535 with a .979 OPS and seven doubles, three homers, 16 RBIs, 16 walks and only 18 strikeouts in 101 at-bats over 27 games.
He has been on a tear the last 10 games, hitting .543 (19-for-35) with four doubles, two homers and a 1.000 OPS.
Nationals...
