The Orioles have 49 games remaining, 26 at home, where they are 32-20 (.615). They start a 10-game homestand tonight hosting the Oakland Athletics for a four-game series. The A's lost to Toronto on Thursday and got swept in a three-game series by a combined 18-7 score. Oakland is 51-65 for the season and 10-15 since the All-Star break. The A's have made the most errors in the American League with 96, 10 more than the next closest team. The Orioles have made the fewest errors with 45, 11 less...

With today's roster move, the Orioles have designated outfielders David Lough, Alejandro De Aza, Delmon Young and Travis Snider since opening day. Nine players are off the roster since the opener, and reliever Ryan Webb represents a 10th if you consider that he was included on it until being designated for assignment to make room for catcher Ryan Lavarnway. As I wrote in my last entry, Lough would have to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk if he clears waivers. The Orioles want...

Baltimore native Steve Clevenger rejoined the Orioles today. He was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and David Lough was designated for assignment. Clevenger gives the Orioles a healthy second catcher. Matt Wieters said he feels better though, as he deals with a sore hamstring and remains on the active roster. "It's exciting to be here," Clevenger said this afternoon. "They are in a playoff run so I want to help the team any way I can." In 75 games with Norfolk, Clevenger has hit .305 with...

The Orioles have recalled catcher Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk and designated outfielder David Lough for assignment. Clevenger is in the Orioles clubhouse this afternoon and is listed as a reserve for tonight's series opener against the Athletics. Caleb Joseph gets the start at catcher. Clevenger hasn't seen much major league action this season, appearing in only four games with the Orioles. He is 5-for-11, however, and will provide manager Buck Showalter with another option behind...

Steve Clevenger is in the Orioles' clubhouse and listed among the reserves for tonight's series opener against the Athletics. However, Henry Urrutia's name doesn't appear anywhere. The Orioles have 26 players on the board, so no corresponding move has been announced for Clevenger. No idea why Urrutia isn't listed. Nolan Reimold is the designated hitter tonight and Junior Lake is in left field. Jonathan Schoop is batting fifth. Left-hander Brad Mills has been summoned from Triple-A...

Nationals
The Nationals have plated just one run over a current three-game losing streak. They will face struggling Giants right-hander Matt Cain, who has allowed four or more runs in five of his seven starts this season. Cain is 5-5 with a 3.34 in 14 career regular season starts against the Nats. Ian Desmond is 4-for-13 (.308) with two homers, three RBIs and two walks over his last four games. The 29-year-old owns a .357 (5-for-14) lifetime average off Cain with a home run. Jayson Werth is 5-for-10...

The Nationals send ace Max Scherzer to the mound tonight looking to end a three-game losing streak. Scherzer, who was arguably the National League's best pitcher through the first half of the season, has not been as dominant since the All-Star break. Scherzer is 1-1 with a 3.90 in his last five starts. The 31-year-old is coming off six innings on Sunday where the Rockies tagged him for three homers in the Nats' 6-4 loss. It was the second time in his last four outings that Scherzer...

Nationals manager Matt Williams says that outfielder Michael A. Taylor deserves to be in the running for the National League Rookie of the Year. He's right, but there's plenty of competition. The Dodgers' Joc Pederson was the clear winner at the All-Star break, but his power has faded and his strikeouts have soared in the second half. If it hadn't been for his defense, the Dodgers might have sent him to the minor leagues. Taylor has done a good job filling in while Jayson Werth and Denard...

Former third baseman Melvin Mora and outfielders Gary Roenicke and John Lowenstein will be inducted later tonight into the Orioles Hall of Fame, the ceremony taking place before the 7:05 p.m. game against the Athletics at Camden Yards. Long-time scout Fred Uhlman Sr. will be inducted as this year's Herb Armstrong Award winner. Lowenstein is on a cruise and unable to attend. Mora and Roenicke met with the media prior to this morning's luncheon at the B&O Warehouse. They expressed their...
