Coming off a college basketball season where he helped lead Notre Dame to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight, it looks like Orioles minor league pitcher Pat Connaughton may not yet be ready to put basketball in his rear-view mirror for good.
Connaughton was drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round last June and signed for a slot bonus of $428,100.
He reported to short-season Single-A Aberdeen and went 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA. In 14 2/3 innings, the right-hander allowed 13 hits with three walks...

JUPITER, Fla. - First baseman Ryan Zimmerman is back in the Nationals lineup after banging his left shoulder during a diving stop in the first inning of Friday's loss to the Cardinals. It's a good sign for the Nationals, who have suffered a rash of injuries this spring.
With just five spring games left before opening day, today's lineup features a quartet of non-roster invitees still fighting to earn a trip back to Washington: second baseman Dan Uggla, right fielder Clint Robinson, third...
The Seattle Mariners are the trendy pick to win the American League West, and if they do, they would have their first division title since winning 116 games in 2001.
But will the Mariners overtake the Los Angeles Angels, who won 98 games last season only to lose in the postseason's first round? Since winning the World Series in 2002, the Angels have been bounced in the postseason five times, four times in the first round, and once in the American League Championship Series.
The Angels offense...
The National League West will be a three-team race with the Dodgers, Padres and defending World Series champion Giants.
The Dodgers have a revamped lineup, but their rotation is thin. The Padres have an all-new outfield, but the defense might be shaky. The Giants are banking on a healthy lineup to make up for the loss of Pablo Sandoval, who signed with Boston.
San Diego will prevent the Dodgers from winning their third consecutive NL West title. The Dodgers will finish second followed by the...

Arencibia has been diagnosed with a strained right flexor mass. His arm was wrapped in ice this morning while standing at his locker.
"Got a shot and wait a couple days and see how I feel," he said. "They did some tests this morning and said what the smartest route could be...
