We're three innings deep, and there's no score at Citi Field. Washington's Jordan Zimmermann and New York's Bartolo Colon are putting up zeros all around.
The Nationals had a threat brewing in the top of the third when Wilson Ramos doubled and Kevin Farndsen singled, putting runners on the corners with no one out. But Zimmermann and Michael A. Taylor struck out and Asdrubal Cabrera grounded out to short to end the rally.
Heading to the fourth, it's 0-0.
Update: Kevin Frandsen dropped a fly...
Chris Tillman has retired the first six Yankees tonight, striking out Chase Headley to end the top of the second inning.
Tillman has thrown 30 pitches, 20 for strikes.
Yankees starter Michael Pineda is pitching for the first time in the majors since April 23, when he was ejected from a game at Fenway Park for using pine tar on the ball. And his cap. And his neck. And his pregame meal.
Helps with tartar control.
A New York reporter asked Showalter whether he'd be checking Pineda for a...
The Orioles have won a season-high seven straight series. They have lost just one of their last 12 American League East series.
They can add to both totals with a win here tonight in a rain-shortened, two-game series against the Yankees. The Orioles are 9-1-2 in the last 12 AL East series, and they have won three in a row and five of their last six.
They are 29-19 against the AL East with a much better road (17-8) than home (12-11) record against the division.
The Orioles have scored 36 runs...
Kevin Gausman is headed to Norfolk today.
Relax. He's just gathering some of his belongings before the trip back to Baltimore in the morning.
"Gausman just got all his work done," said manager Buck Showalter. "He's driving to Norfolk to pick up a lot of stuff that he had there. Moving out of his apartment. I don't want him driving after the game tonight. He was going to drive after the game and I don't like that. I wanted him to get out and beat the traffic. He'll come back tomorrow...
Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth will miss at least a couple of days after receiving a cortisone injection this morning in his right shoulder to relieve inflammation in his sprained AC joint. Manager Matt Williams hopes the preventative treatment will "calm it down," allowing Werth to return to the lineup in short order.
"He had an MRI last night, and all of that checked out really well," Williams said during his pregame meeting with reporters at New York's Citi Field. "But he's got...
Orioles third baseman Manny Machado walked past manager Buck Showalter's office earlier today with crutches under his arm. He was carrying them.
Machado didn't need any assistance walking into the auxiliary clubhouse this afternoon to meet with reporters and provide an update on his knee injury. He's encouraged and relieved that it's only a sprain, though he has no idea whether he will return on Aug. 27.
"Honestly, I felt pretty good today," he said. "The last couple days getting...
With Manny Machado on the disabled list, Chris Davis moves over from first and gets the start at third base tonight.
This will be Davis' third start this year at third base. The Orioles are 1-1 in the first two games. Davis made 17 starts for the Orioles at third in the 2011 season and has made 68 big league starts at the position.
"I figured it was something that was probably going to be asked of me with Manny being out and J.J. being out. Kind of limited on options, I know we called up...
The Orioles would like to alert fans heading to Oriole Park at Camden Yards tonight that a light rail train has derailed near the Camden Station, blocking access to Oriole Park from Conway and Howard streets.
Fans are advised to access Oriole Park on-site parking lots via Lee Street (off of Russell Street), Ostend Street or Hamburg Street.
We'll keep you updated with any new information that becomes available.
The derailment occurred shortly before 4 p.m., the worst possible time considering...
Shortstop J.J. Hardy has avoided the disabled list and expects to play this weekend in Cleveland.
Hardy is sidelined with a sprained left thumb.
"Came in yesterday and a big improvement," he said. "Went and got an MRI and it was clean. Came in today, had a bigger improvement and real positive about the way it feels.
"Will do a little bit more treatment tomorrow. Play it by ear if we're going to do any baseball activity tomorrow, but I'd like to and my goal is to be on the field in the...
Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Manny Machado could return to the team by the end of his disabled list stint. Machado was placed on the 15-day disabled list today, retroactive to August 12, with a right knee sprain.
"That's possible," Duquette said. "We'll see how it goes. Today he's feeling pretty good, he's walking around."
To fill Machado's roster spot, the Orioles called up infielder Cord Phelps from Triple-A Norfolk.
Phelps, 27, has batted .258/.358/.380 with...
