The Upton brothers have struck again.
Taylor Jordan gave up an early 1-0 Nats lead in the first inning after allowing a solo homer to Braves outfielder B.J. Upton.
Jordan then allowed a single to Freddie Freeman. One out later, Justin Upton doubled home Freeman to give the Braves a 2-1 lead. Dan Uggla and Evan Gattis then followed with doubles of their own.
The Braves lead 4-1 after one inning.
The game got off to a promising start for the Nats as second baseman Anthony Rendon led off the...
Bud Norris makes his second start of the season here tonight against Toronto. His first went well for a short time. He needed just 25 pitches to sail through the first two innings last Saturday at Detroit, but he then gave up five runs over the next three innings on 78 pitches.
Norris made five Camden Yards starts last season and went 2-1 with an ERA of 7.30, but the Orioles went 4-1 in those games. It's certainly not a trend for him since he ranked second in the National League in home ERA...
The Nationals revealed before Saturday's game that outfielder Denard Span is dealing with concussion symptoms.
Span collided with Braves second baseman Dan Uggla late in Friday's game and has been dealing with a mild headache since, according to manager Matt Williams.
"Given his history we thought certainly erring on the side of caution to go ahead and get him on the seven-day concussion disabled list," Williams said before Saturday's game in Atlanta.
The Nats center fielder has...
Precautionary X-rays on the right arm of Double-A Bowie pitcher Zach Davies were negative today and he's listed as day-to-day.
Davies got the start this afternoon for Bowie at Akron. But he left the game in the last of the second when he was struck by a line drive on the right arm, specifically his pitching elbow according to the team's Twitter feed. Matt Bischoff came on to pitch.
Over 1 1/3 innings, Davies gave up two hits and one run with two walks and one strikeout. He threw 26 pitches....
The Washington Nationals today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Blake Treinen from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned right-handed reliever Aaron Barrett there. Additionally, the team recalled outfielder Steven Souza Jr. and placed outfielder Denard Span on the 7-day Disabled List with a concussion. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcements.
Treinen, 25, made one start for Triple-A this season (April 7 vs. Pawtucket), tossing five...
J.J. Hardy is back in the Orioles lineup tonight and feeling pretty excited about that.
"Really good. It's been a long week for me," Hardy said this afternoon. "These back spasms are no fun. I hope they are behind me and I won't have to deal with them for the rest of the year."
Hardy hasn't played since a week ago today at Detroit when he went 2-for-3 with a walk. He is batting .333 (5-for-15) on the season. The back spasms and tightness have kept him out of the last five games and six...
Orioles third baseman Manny Machado got six at-bats today against left-hander Johan Santana in a simulated game at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
Machado was scheduled for two at-bats, but received an additional four.
"I think that two was a minimum," said manager Buck Showalter.
Machado has been cleared to run full-speed on Monday, one of the final hurdles before getting into extended spring training games and going on an injury rehab assignment.
"They said they think he snuck a couple...
ATLANTA - Coming off Friday night's extra-inning loss to the Braves, one that was especially taxing to the Nationals bullpen, the team has made at least one roster move before tonight's contest.
Right-hander Blake Treinen is in the building and will be called up for the first time in his career. Right-hander Aaron Barrett will be optioned, but said the Nats told him they hope to bring him back up in about 10 days - the minimum time required before recalling a player after he's sent down...
ATLANTA - Jayson Werth, who left last night's game with a tightness in his groin, is out of the Nationals lineup today.
Also out of the lineup is Denard Span, who will sit today with the Braves starting left-hander Alex Wood.
Werth was pulled from last night's game in the 10th inning, and manager Matt Williams said after the game that Werth would be reevaluated today. We'll wait to get an update on his status.
Bryce Harper will play center field today for the Nats, with Nate McLouth...
Shortstop J.J. Hardy and left fielder David Lough have returned to the Orioles lineup for tonight's game against the Blue Jays.
Hardy had been absent for six of the last seven games due to spasms and tightness in his lower back. Lough was tested for a concussion Wednesday due to dizziness and eye floaters, the same symptoms that caused the Orioles to shut him down in spring training.
Lough was out of the lineup on Tuesday, served as a ninth-inning defensive replacement on Wednesday and sat out...
