Recap: In his last start before opening day, Chris Tillman allowed two runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings, with one walk and one strikeout. He threw 79 pitches. Zach Britton had back-to-back outings for the first time this spring and struck out the only batter he faced. The Rays scored once off Darren O'Day in the seventh, the tying run crossing the plate on Adam Jones' error. The Orioles broke the tie on a Brett Wallace sacrifice fly in the...

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A few hours following this afternoon's loss to the Cardinals, the Nationals' second-to-last Grapefruit League game of spring, the Nats trimmed their roster down to 26 active players by optioning infielder/outfielder Jeff Kobernus to Triple-A Syracuse and catcher Sandy Leon to Double-A Harrisburg.
Both guys had been mentioned yesterday by manager Matt Williams as candidates to make the team's opening day roster, but today's signing of infielder Kevin Frandsen...
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Nolan Reimold can swing the bat without any discomfort in his surgically repaired neck. It's playing the outfield that's causing problems and has led to the Orioles' decision to place him on the 15-day disabled list, a move that will be announced before opening day.
"The two times he tried, looking up bothered him some," said manager Buck Showalter. "You've probably got to be able to look up to play the outfield, depending on your pitching staff. But this buys us...
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold will begin the 2014 season on the 15-day disabled list.
Reimold was scratched from tonight's game against the Rays in Port Charlotte. He hasn't been able to play the outfield comfortably following corrective surgery on his neck In January to fuse two vertebrae.
Reimold played yesterday and collected a hit, so his assignment will be backdated to today.
Manager Buck Showalter stressed that Reimold didn't experience a setback. He can...
JUPITER, Fla. - The Cardinals beat the Nationals 3-2 this afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium, but if you turn on MLB Network or SportsCenter tonight, you probably won't see much of Gio Gonzalez's five innings of work or Danny Espinosa's impressive sliding defensive play to the right of the second base bag.
You'll probably see Bryce Harper getting thrown out of the game in the fourth inning for arguing a call at first base with umpire Jeff Gosney.
Harper sprinted down the line to try and beat...
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Orioles have optioned pitcher Steve Johnson and outfielder Henry Urrutia to Triple-A Norfolk and reassigned outfielder Quintin Berry and infielder Alexi Casilla to minor league camp.
With this move, the Orioles now have 36 players at major league spring training, including four non-roster invitees.
Casilla signed a minor league deal on Jan. 10 and appeared to be the leading candidate to serve in a utility role, but hamstring and knee injuries limited his...

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Orioles defeated the Red Sox 5-4 in their first split-squad game today, and the team bus just arrived at Charlotte Sports Park for the nightcap.
While we wait for manager Buck Showalter to arrive and the Orioles to reveal their roster cuts, the club has announced its opening day plans.
The Orioles will honor the 13 members of their family who passed away since the 2013 opener during a pre-game video tribute. Special pregame ceremonies will recognize Orioles investor...
Steve Degler, color analyst for the Phillies' Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs television network and sometime radio announcer for the Double-A Reading Phillies, knows new Nationals infielder Kevin Frandsen well. Degler has seen Frandsen play a lot over the last three seasons in the minors and with the Philadelphia Phillies.
"He is a very versatile guy, he can play all four infield spots, probably best-suited for second base and shortstop," Degler said. "Hard-nosed. He plays the game hard...
