With two weeks left until pitchers and catchers report, the Orioles are starting to wrap up their offseason before the long baseball season begins. Before heading to FanFest this Saturday, pitcher Bud Norris took time to host an event in his hometown of Novato, Calif., for the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco. Prior to pitching in a Wiffle ball game, Norris spoke to children and other attendees on the importance of staying motivated. "Every day when the sun comes out, you have to find...

ESPN's Keith Law on A.J. Burnett and O's prospects

If the Orioles make a major run at signing free agent pitcher A.J. Burnett, ESPN's Keith Law thinks it would be a great move for the team and that he's likely the best fit for the club among the free agent pitchers. I spoke with Law on several topics today, including a long interview about his prospect reports this week, which were quite positive on the O's farm system. I'll include some of his thoughts here on that and will have some more of his more specific comments on the O's farm...

While Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette continues his search for a starting pitcher, the club has announced two international signings. The Orioles have purchased first baseman Carlos Diaz, 17, from the Mexico City Reds. Diaz, from Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, stands 6-foot-2 and weights 200 lbs. He bats left and throws right. The Orioles also have signed 16-year-old international free agent Jomar Reyes, a third baseman from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Reyes,...
Throwback Thursday: Reaching a career milestone in style
Throwback Thursday: Reaching a career milestone in style

After a slow start and an early stint on the disabled list, Jayson Werth had a year to remember at the plate. He finished the season with a .318 average, but it was one of his 25 home runs that remains the highlight of Werth's 2013 campaign. On an August evening at Nats Park, Werth stepped to the plate with 999 career hits. A simple base hit would have been memorable, but of course, that's not Werth's style. Instead, with the ballgame tied 4-4 in the seventh, Werth hit a two-run home...

As a three-time Gold Glove winner, Adam Jones can cover some ground with his feet and his arm. In the video below, Jones not only demonstrates his range and speed, but his strength and accuracy, as well. With a throw all the way from deep right-center, Jones gunned down an aggressive Jose Reyes trying to take third. MASN is giving Orioles fans a chance to take a photo with Adam Jones and his cannon of an arm this weekend at FanFest. Be sure to stop by for our booth for chances to win signed...
Strasburg sets his personal goals for 2014, plus minor league note
Strasburg sets his personal goals for 2014, plus minor league note
Dan Kolko
Nationals
The 2013 season was a big one for Stephen Strasburg in a few ways. Obviously, it was the first time Strasburg had pitched a full season in the big leagues, a milestone that he had a right to be proud of. Despite a couple of injuries that caused him to miss a few starts along the way, Strasburg still hit the 30-start mark and finished with a career-high 183 innings pitched. He only won eight games on the season and finished with a losing record, but Strasburg posted an impressive 3.00 ERA,...
More on Machado's upcoming knee exam
More on Machado's upcoming knee exam

Orioles
If Manny Machado's recovery from knee surgery doesn't rate as the highlight of the Orioles' offseason, it definitely belongs in the top two. Camden Yards didn't burn down. I'm not married to this list. Dylan Bundy is playing catch and could be pitching again at Double-A Bowie within the next five months. Matt Wieters is the only arbitration-eligible player on the club who hasn't signed for 2014. Outfielder David Lough and reliever Ryan Webb appear to be solid additions. The early...

He became a minor league free agent a few days after the World Series, but right-hander Zach Clark re-signed with the Orioles early this month to continue pitching for the organization he has been with since the 2006 season. After his wild ride last year - which saw him make the majors briefly, get designated for assignment and then begin throwing a knuckleball at three different levels of the minors - maybe this year will be less eventful for the 30-year-old from Wilmington, Del. "I'm glad...

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado remains scheduled to have his left knee re-examined Friday morning in Los Angeles, the final step toward being cleared for baseball-related activities. As it was explained to me a few weeks ago, Machado will undergo a final dynamic functional testing, at which point he should be given the green light. Dr. Neal ElAttrache examined Machado's knee on Jan. 16 and told the third baseman that he's six to eight weeks ahead of schedule, according to a team...

Orioles sign "other" Chad Tracy to minor league deal

The Orioles have signed Chad Tracy to a minor league contract. The deal does not include an invitation to spring training. Not that Chad Tracy. This one is the son of former manager Jim Tracy. He spent the 2013 season at Triple-A Omaha and with the independent York Revolution. Tracy, 28, plays first base and left field, and has caught in 56 games. He spent his first six professional seasons in the Rangers organization and has also played in the Rockies and Royals systems. Tracy is a career...
