The Orioles today announced that they have recalled right-hander Jair Jurrjens from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for Jurrjens on the roster, infielder Travis Ishikawa has been designated for assignment. Jurrjens, 27, did not receive a decision in his only start for the Orioles on May 18 vs. Tampa Bay (5.0IP, 6H, 4ER, BB, 5K). He is 5-5 with a 4.06 ERA (84.1IP, 38ER) in 14 starts for the Tides this season. Ishikawa, 29, had two hits in 17 at-bats (.118) in six games for the Orioles.

NEW YORK - The Nationals have committed three errors and made a few other poor defensive plays. They put up just one run against Mets starter Dillon Gee, who has a 0.96 ERA in 18 2/3 innings against the Nats this season and a 5.55 ERA against everyone else. They've allowed eight Mets hits through six innings, and didn't get Craig Stammen's best stuff in relief, as Stammen has surrendered three hits and two runs over 1 2/3 innings, this after allowing an inherited run to score, as...

A night after breaking up CC Sabathia's no-hitter and hitting the game-winning home run, Nate McLouth is back at the top of the order and playing left field for the Orioles. Chris Dickerson is hitting eighth and is listed as the designated hitter. Tonight's starter is Zach Britton, who is 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA with the Orioles this season. As of right now, the same relievers are listed on the roster, including T.J. McFarland and Kevin Gausman. No roster move has been made yet. For the...

NEW YORK - Two innings into his big league career, Taylor Jordan has put up two zeros. Making his major league debut today against the Mets, Jordan understandably looked a little shaky in his first inning of work, but settled down in the second, locating better down in the zone and setting the Mets down in order. Jordan's first career big league pitch was a 91 mph fastball outside to Eric Young Jr. Catcher Kurt Suzuki rolled the ball towards the Nationals' dugout, and Jordan will have it...

NEW YORK - Taylor Jordan arrived to Citi Field this morning with the crowd of Nationals players and staffers that were on the second bus departing the team hotel. The tall, baby-faced right-hander walked into the visitors' clubhouse with a smile stretching from ear-to-ear, dropped off his bags and tossed on a brand new, red Nationals warm-up shirt. He shook the hands of a few people milling around the clubhouse, met up with pitching coach Steve McCatty and then turned the corner to head to...

NEW YORK - Another day, another injury issue for the Nationals. Ross Detwiler is dealing with a stiff lower back, manager Davey Johnson said this morning, an injury that could cause the left-hander to miss his next start in the Nats' rotation. Detwiler went five innings in last night's 6-4 win over the Mets, throwing 98 pitches in that time. He had landed on the DL with a right oblique/back issue in mid-May, and needed to miss nearly a month because of that ailment, but this issue is on the...

NEW YORK - The Nationals made two roster moves this morning. We knew one was coming. One is a little bit of a surprise. The Nats have selected the contract of right-hander Taylor Jordan from Double-A Harrisburg and also recalled right-handed reliever Erik Davis. To make room for those two, first baseman Chris Marrero and outfielder Jeff Kobernus were both optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. We knew Jordan would be coming up today and getting this afternoon's start against the Mets and that...

Left-hander Matt Purke had his best outing to date this season for low Single-A Hagerstown Suns Friday night against Lexington. Purke went six innings and allowed one hit, no runs and struck out eight hitters. Lexington scored three in the ninth to come back and win, 3-2, so Purke finished with a no-decision. But that does not hide that Purke has 17 strikeouts in his last 11 innings. In six starts, spanning 29 innings, Purke has 41 strikeouts. He has walked only seven during that span. He...

After an impressive Orioles win last night reporters had an impressive array of postgame interviews at our disposal. In one corner of the clubhouse Kevin Gausman was talking about his first win, and pitching in relief. In another corner, Manny Machado was talking about tagging up to get to third base where he could score a key run later on an infield hit. And then there was Nate McLouth talking about hitting a key go-ahead homer. McLouth provided maybe the quote of the night when asked if his...

Second baseman Brian Roberts will return to Camden Yards today, take batting practice and wait to be activated on Sunday. For fans questioning whether he's ready to come off the disabled list after being removed from last night's game at Triple-A Norfolk because of rain, I'll respond by asking if you're really serious. Of course he should have come out of the game. Why risk injury on a wet minor league field to a guy coming off surgery on his hamstring? No team would have taken that...
