NEW YORK - The first 14 Nationals hitters that Matt Harvey faced Friday night all took the disappointing walk back to the visitors' dugout along the third base line. Seven of those 14 were set down on strikes by the Mets flame-throwing right-hander.
At that point, when Harvey was cruising through the first 4 2/3 innings and had yet to allow a baserunner, did the Nats start to feel he had no-hit stuff?
"No. This morning, when I woke up, I thought he had no-hit stuff," Ian Desmond...
Is the Orioles-Yankees rivalry because of the 1996 ALCS? Is it due to the close proximity between the two cities? Or, is it just the natural tension that arises between two competitive teams in the same division?
Regardless of the reason, the rivalry between the Orioles and Yankees is very much alive, and with the AL East tighter than ever, it has been taken to a whole new level.

NEW YORK - Over the seven innings that Mets ace Matt Harvey was in tonight's game, the Nationals managed one run on three hits. Harvey overpowered the Nats, as he'd overpowered pretty much every other team he's faced this season.
But the Nats kept the game close, and trailed 4-1 when the mediocre Mets bullpen was called upon in the eighth. Then they pounced.
Ryan Zimmerman tied the game with a bases-loaded, two-out double in the eighth, and Ian Desmond smacked a go-ahead double in the...
The Orioles are discussing whether to bring up a reliever for Saturday night after Kevin Gausman worked 4 1/3 innings in relief. They don't really have a long man, since T.J. McFarland started tonight.
Manager Buck Showalter prefers having a right-hander backing up a left-handed starter, and Zach Britton takes the mound Saturday night.
Tommy Hunter pitched the last two innings for the Orioles and recorded his second career save in a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. Jim Johnson told Showalter...
Here is a sampling of some of the quotes from around the O's clubhouse after their comeback, 4-3 win over the New York Yankees tonight:
Nate McLouth on his homer in the seventh: "It was a breaking ball, elevated, pretty much down the middle. I'm sure he didn't want to throw it there, but was able to put a good part of the bat on it."
McLouth on the team win: "(Kevin) Gausman came in and I'm sure he hadn't come out of the bullpen yet in pro ball and that is not easy. It's totally...
Coming into the game in the third inning, rookie Kevin Gausman pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out four. He left the game after the top of the seventh, and Nate McLouth hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning for the Orioles' go-ahead run.
Gausman earned his first major league win and was rewarded with a pie from Adam Jones. Hey, it's no locker of doughnuts, but it still has to taste pretty sweet.

Nate McLouth doesn't start much against left-handed pitchers but he came through tonight against a southpaw, CC Sabathia. Kevin Gausman is not usually a reliever, but he came through tonight out of the 'pen. And the Orioles rallied to beat the Yankees 4-3 in front of 40,041 at Camden Yards.
After the Yankees scored three runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings off starter T.J. McFarland, Gausman came on the third and shut down the Yankees after that to get his first major league win.
McLouth...
It's another night where the Orioles have ventured into the middle innings without a hit.
They have one baserunner against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia through five innings. Alexi Casilla reached on third baseman Alberto Gonzalez's fielding error with two outs in the third.
It's getting a bit tense.
Kevin Gausman has kept the Yankees from building on their 3-0 lead. He retired eight of the first nine Yankees, and struck out three of the first four.
David Adams singled with one out in...
NEW YORK - The hits might be few and far between for the Nationals tonight.
That is, if they come at all.
Mets right-hander Matt Harvey has been perfect through four innings so far, striking out six and making Nats hitters look pretty silly in the process.
Five of Harvey's strikeouts have been of the swinging variety. He got Denard Span and Anthony Rendon swinging to open the game, showing both 98 mph fastballs and then getting them to flail at offspeed pitches (the curve got Span, the...
