Ryan Zimmerman isn't the only Nationals player heading to the disabled list.
The Nats announced that they've placed right-handed pitcher Brad Lidge on the 15-day DL with an abdominal wall strain and recalled right-hander Ryan Perry from Triple-A Syracuse.
Lidge, who has spent quite a bit of time on the disabled list over the course of his career, finds himself sidelined yet again. He battled a bout of vertigo earlier this season, and now

The Washington Nationals today recalled right-handed pitcher Ryan Perry from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League and placed right-handed pitcher Brad Lidge on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to April 22, with an abdominal wall strain. Nationals Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Perry went 1-0 with two saves and a 2.00 ERA in eight relief appearances with Syracuse this season. The 25-year-old is 5-6 with two...
The Orioles have jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and full credit goes to leadoff hitter Nolan Reimold.
Reimold doubled to right-center field off Oakland starter Brandon McCarthy, hustling into second base ahead of the throw. Reimold tagged and took third on J.J. Hardy's fly ball to left - something you don't always see on a ball hit to that side - and he tagged again and scored on Nick Markaki's liner to medium left.
Reimold slid wide of catcher Kurt Suzuki's attempted tag,...
This stat surely will not hold up forever, but when the Orioles get a quality start from their starting pitcher this year, they are 9-0.
By definition a quality start is one where the starting pitcher works six innings or more allowing three earned runs or less. Yes, that is a 4.50 ERA, but most quality starts produce single game stats much better than that.
Right-hander Jake Arrieta will try to extend that streak tonight for an Orioles pitching staff that has worked to an ERA of 0.73 during...
Before we dive even deeper into Bryce Harper cracking the Nationals lineup tomorrow, let's look at the Nats lineup today.
There's an interesting twist to manager Davey Johnson's lineup against the Dodgers: He's dropped second baseman Danny Espinosa to sixth in the order and has Steve Lombardozzi playing third base and hitting in the No. 2 spot tonight.
Johnson has said he likes slotting Espinosa into the two hole in his lineup because he likes having run-producers towards the top of the...
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo revealed to the media Friday that phenom left fielder Bryce Harper was being called up to the majors for the first time in his career, replacing third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the Nationals' 25-man roster. Zimmerman was placed in the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury.
But was it Rizzo that told Harper he was heading to the bigs?
No, Rizzo said he gives that "honor and luxury" to the manager of the player.
So, Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs...
The Orioles made room for second baseman Robert Andino on their 25-man roster today by optioning pitcher Jason Berken to Triple-A Norfolk.
Andino rejoined the team today after spending two days in Miami for the birth of his third child and first daughter. He's starting at second base tonight.
Manager Buck Showalter wanted to make sure there wouldn't be a corresponding move involving the disabled list before Berken came off the roster.
Jim Johnson was discharged from Saint Agnes Hospital...
The Orioles today announced that they have reinstated infielder Robert Andino from the Paternity List and optioned right-handed pitcher Jason Berken to Triple-A Norfolk.
Andino, 28, started the first 17 games of the season (16 at 2B, one at SS) and batted .300/.333/.433 in 60 at-bats. He missed two games for the birth of his daughter, Amarise Hazel Andino.
Berken, 28, has pitched to a 0.60 ERA (15.0IP, ER) with four walks and 10 strikeouts in three starts for the Tides this season.
Jake Arrieta takes the mound for the Orioles tonight in the first game of this three-game weekend series with Oakland. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 4.01 over his first four starts.
Arrieta has looked strong this year and fully recovered from having bone spurs removed from his right elbow last August.
He has said that procedure will benefit him in many ways and catcher Matt Wieters came up with one of those ways today that I had not heard mentioned before.
"I think it helps now that he can get...
The star of tomorrow will make his debut tomorrow.
The Nationals have announced that Bryce Harper will be activated from Triple-A Syracuse and will replace third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 25-man roster. Zimmerman will be placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.
Harper, the No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft, will make his major league debut at Dodger Stadium on Saturday.
Speaking on a conference call with reporters late this afternoon, general manager Mike Rizzo said that this wasn't...
