Wei-Yin Chen's start is sort of a big deal in Taiwan.
How big?
There are nine Taiwanese media outlets at Camden Yards tonight: Central News Agency, TBVS, ETTV, ESPN Taiwan, China Times, Liberty Times, Formosa, CTI TV and World Journal. There are 15 people from these outlets.
Tonight's game will air live in Taiwan on three outlets - Formosa TV, ESPN Taiwan and ETLA - at 7 a.m. local time.
It's also a pretty big deal to the Orioles.
"Oh, without a doubt it's different. Thank goodness....
FLUSHING, N.Y. - The bad news on the injury front just keeps coming.
Yet again, Michael Morse has suffered a setback in his strained lat, and the Nationals' left fielder has been shut down for the time being.
Scheduled to play a full nine innings yesterday at low-A Hagerstown as part of the next step in his rehab, Morse was pulled in the seventh inning when he complained of more discomfort in his right lat. Morse will be examined by the Nationals' team doctors and will undergo additional...
When the Triple-A Norfolk Tides host Gwinnett tonight at Harbor Park, Josh Bell will be in the starting lineup in right field, making his first ever professional start in the outfield. Bell did play in one game in left and one game in right field for the Orioles last season, but did not have a ball hit to him and those were not starts. Bell, who is 2-for-15 on the season, made his only other start this year at first base. Zelous Wheeler has made three starts at third base for Norfolk and Matt...
Catcher Matt Wieters will be out of the lineup for the first time Saturday night or Sunday afternoon in Toronto. Manager Buck Showalter will decide after checking the matchups.
Well, I checked them and I couldn't find a definitive solution.
The Blue Jays are starting right-hander Henderson Alvarez on Saturday and right-hander Kyle Drabek on Sunday. Wieters and backup Ronny Paulino haven't faced Alvarez, who's 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 0.87 WHIP in two career starts against the Orioles, with...
Ozzie Guillen's steady stream of inappropriate comments has generally been forgotten, but watching his press conference from Miami on Tuesday, you get the idea that the Cuban community that hates Fidel Castro is not going to be as forgiving.
Guillen, the 48-year-old and Miami Marlins manager, spent 50 minutes apologizing in English and Spanish for his remarks in Time magazine about how he loves and respects Castro, the dictator that destroyed thousands of lives after he took over...
To Orioles second baseman Robert Andino, last night's heated exchange with Yankees catcher Russell Martin over an accusation that he was stealing signs was simply "heat of the moment."
"Boys being boys," he said. "Just had a few words. Nothing big."
Manager Buck Showalter kept Andino in the lineup tonight.
Asked for his take on last night's incident, Showalter said, "Exactly what happened. I think you all know. And we move on. We'll handle things as they come."
We won't know...
Those of you who follow me at my regular baseball home, The Loss Column, have seen me discuss this at some length. I don't want to repeat myself too much, but I've also never really offered up a dedicated explanation of my thinking. The uniqueness of this forum seems a good place to do that.
To wit: I have worked out a way - possibly not the best way, but a way nonetheless - to enjoy the Orioles in 2012 despite their dim prospects for success.
No expectations, just baseball.
What do I mean...
When the Orioles' clubhouse opened to reporters a few minutes ago, Robert Andino knew what to expect. He was waiting by his locker for us to ask him about what happened between him and Yankees catcher Russell Martin at the end of the game last night.
"I was waiting for you all," he said.
Andino said it was a miscommunication and said he did not expect it to have any carryover into tonight's game.
"You know, heat of the moment," Andino said. "Boys being boys. Just had a few words....
FLUSHING, N.Y. - A day after getting elbowed in the head while covering first base, Danny Espinosa is not in manager Davey Johnson's starting lineup against the Mets.
Asked how he was feeling after last night's game, Espinosa insisted he was OK, and he only had some dizziness for a few seconds after catching a Ruben Tejada elbow on the side of the head.
It could be that Johnson just wants to get some at-bats for Steve Lombardozzi, who will play second base tonight, and that Espinosa is...
Manager Buck Showalter isn't hiding Robert Andino tonight. If the Yankees are thinking about retribution after last night's accusation from catcher Russell Martin that Andino was stealing signs, they won't have any trouble finding him.

Adam Jones CF
