The Orioles have announced some changes to the previously released autograph lineup for Saturday's FanFest at the Baltimore Convention Center. Most of the changes were necessitated by the fact that previously scheduled participants Brian Roberts, Josh Bell, Kyle Hudson and Bill Swaggerty are unable to attend FanFest.
At ESSKAY Autograph Station 1, Pedro Strop and Joe Mahoney have replaced Bell and Swaggerty for the 11:20 a.m. session.
At ESSKAY Autograph Station 2, fans can get signatures...
The Nationals scratched two more names off their list of arbitration-eligible players this morning, agreeing to terms with left-hander Tom Gorzelanny and right-hander Jordan Zimmermann on 2012 contracts.
The deals were announced on the Twitter feed of the team's public relations department. Gorzelanny received $2.7 million, while Zimmermann got $2.3 million.
The 29-year-old Gorzelanny, acquired in January from the Cubs for three minor leaguers, was 4-6 with a 4.03 ERA in 30 appearances,...
Now that the Orioles have drafted Oklahoma high school pitcher Dylan Bundy, now comes the development part of the equation, where the organization will work on getting Bundy to the major leagues at a proper pace that will allow the best chance for him to have lasting success.
Easy to say, but hard to do. Many fans are skeptical, with some justification, about the O's ability to develop young pitchers after so many have come up short of expectations and/or gotten injured in recent years.
As a...
Because you can't get enough of the Yoenis Cespedes updates, I'll pass along that he went 1-for-4 last night for Aguilas in the Dominican Winter League. He was removed for a pinch runner in the ninth inning.
Miguel Tejada started at second base. I'm serious.
Actually, Tejada made four starts at second base for the Giants last season - the only four of his career.
As for Cespedes, he's 2-for-19 with six strikeouts in five games. He's gotten two balls out of the infield.
I'm facing...
It took a while, but former major league pitching coach Rick Peterson has accepted a job with the Orioles.
An announcement has been anticipated for more than a month. Peterson met with team officials on at least three occasions, the first time Dec. 1, before an agreement finally was reached today.
Peterson basically will replace Alan Dunn as minor league pitching coordinator, though his title is expected to be director of pitching development.
Peterson was named pitching coach in Oakland...
The Nationals have avoided arbitration with catcher Jesus Flores, signing him to a one-year contract. The news was issued in this tweet from the team's public relations department.
Flores will receive $815,000, a modest raise from his 2011 salary of $750,000. He can earn another $50,000 in bonuses tied to games played.
The 27-year-old Flores hit .209 with one homer and two RBIs in 30 games with Washington last season, finally returning to the majors after missing most of two campaigns with...
The Orioles are down to five unsigned arbitration-eligible players. They reached agreement with reliever Darren O'Day last month, according to a team official, so his name should have been crossed off the list I provided over the weekend.
O'Day, claimed off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Nov. 2, earned $1.25 million last season while going 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 16 relief appearances. He had a much better and healthier 2010, going 6-2 with a 2.03 ERA in 72 games.
The Sun is reporting...
FanFest is Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center, and MASN will once again be at the center of Orioles baseball's mid-winter celebration.
You'll have the opportunity to pick up some great giveaways at the MASN booth, premiums you can't get anywhere else. Want to get your photo taken with an Orioles player? We'll make it happen, and post the proof of you rubbing elbows with Adam Jones and Brian Matusz on our MASN Orioles Facebook page.
You can meet and greet MASN talent and...
The next 24 hours will be busy ones for the six Nationals who are eligible for arbitration: right-handers Tyler Clippard and Jordan Zimmermann; left-handers Tom Gorzelanny and John Lannan; outfielder/first baseman Michael Morse; and catcher Jesus Flores. They need to exchange arbitration figures with the team by noon Eastern time Tuesday, though their representatives will also be working on deals to avoid the arbitration process. Those deals can be signed right up until an independent...
Triple-A Syracuse manager Tony Beasley said outfielder Bryce Harper has made excellent progress on and off the field in his first year in professional baseball and is learning what every minor league player learns at this level: how to deal with success and failure.
Beasley skippered the Nationals' No. 1 prospect from July 4 until the end of the season at Double-A Harrisburg and may see Harper soon in his new job as Syracuse's manager.
The 19-year old Harper certainly did not disappoint...
