Troy Patton will admit that there was some frustration for him recently. He was putting up really good numbers for Triple-A Norfolk but watching other pitchers get called to Baltimore. That included other lefties like Pedro Viola and Mark Hendrickson. Patton was happy for those guys, but wondering if his chance would come. It has and now he is back with the Orioles, officially recalled from Norfolk after the game last night. With the Tides, the 25-year-old southpaw was pitching mostly out of...

Orioles pitching coach Rick Adair received positive reports on left-hander Brian Matusz, who made his third start last night for Triple-A Norfolk and blanked Gwinnett on three hits over seven innings. Matusz walked two and struck out eight. Matusz's fastball mostly sat at 86 mph with the Orioles, but Adair said it averaged 88 mph and touched 90 last night. "He was good, better," Adair said. "His velocity on average was up a little bit. His changeup was good. He held runners. And...

Kelly Saunders, the former WJZ-TV reporter who holds the distinction of being the first female to serve as the public address announcer for the Orioles, has died. Sanders, who was 62, passed away early Friday morning from cancer, according to DCRTV.com. A veteran of Washington, D.C.-area radio stations, Saunders also worked in radio in Baltimore at WBAL-AM and WIYY-FM. But it was her pinch-hitting appearance for legendary Orioles PA announcer Rex Barney in 1992 that made her the answer to a...

Moments after an Orlando Cabrera three-run double in the ninth cut the Orioles' 6-2 lead to 6-5 last night, lefty reliever Michael Gonzalez started jogging toward the mound. You know many Orioles fans had to be holding their breath as they have seen Gonzalez struggle for much of his two seasons on the team. Brought here to serve as a closer, he had blown three of four previous saves chances in an O's uniform. He had just one save chance this year and didn't close out that May 10 game with...

Trying to help his team end a long losing streak and help a pitching staff that had allowed 81 runs the last 10 games, Alfredo Simon did both tonight, going seven strong innings as the Orioles beat Cleveland 6-5. Simon gave up just three hits and two runs and became just the second O's starter (after Jeremy Guthrie) to pitch seven innings in the last 30 games. Alfredo Simon discusses his confidence as a starting pitcher as he picks up the win against the Indians "Everything worked good....

Michael Gonzalez recorded his first save tonight since the third game of the 2010 season at Tropicana Field. Yes, it's been that long. Ending a nine-game losing streak is never easy. So what was it like for manager Buck Showalter to watch a starting pitcher throw strikes, go seven innings and give his team a chance to win? "Kind of reminds you of the formula," he said. "Obviously, Alfredo (Simon) was really good. Most innings, he's been. Pretty close to his pitch count. We were going...

Right-hander Brad Peacock took the loss in his debut for the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs on Saturday night. He got roughed up a bit in the first inning against Lehigh Valley, allowing two homers, one a three-run shot, in a five-run initial frame. Lehigh Valley won the game 8-6. Peacock was left in and made it to the fifth inning. He posted zeroes in innings two through four. He then allowed a one-out single, hit a batter and was replaced. Zech Zinicola later gave up a three-run home run....

Why wait until tomorrow when you can announce your roster moves tonight? The Orioles placed Vladimir Guerrero on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 11, and optioned left-hander Pedro Viola to Double-A Bowie. Outfielder Matt Angle and left-hander Troy Patton have been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and will be in uniform tomorrow afternoon. Patton will be used in long and middle relief. There are no current plans to place him in the rotation.
